Anyone know of a salsa at the store that's lower in sodium than most? Or, even better, a recipe for salsa? I looked online for recipes, but I didn't know there were 275,830,947 different kinds :noway: . Plus, I like hearing first hand from you guys what tastes good before I waste my time or my money making recipes that aren't very good  Thanks! :flowerforyou:

  • i chop up tomatoes, garlic, jalepenos and LOTs of cilantro. I like mine to taste like pico de gallo, at the mexican restraunt, so the more cilantro the better

I think the sodium is in the tomatoes.

She has the bases pretty much covered! Use fresh tomatos, the canned ones have tons of sodium. Enjoy! You don't have to cook it though, unless you want.

I use: Tomatos, jalapenos, onions, garlic and cilantro and some lime or lemon juice. Plus a pinch of salt - all to taste. Yumm...

Really? A whole tomato only has like 15 mg of sodium in it. I would imagine the sodium in store bought salsa is coming from salt. I say make your own using fresh tomatoes instead of canned. Canned tomatoes will have the extra sodium, too.

I pretty much use the same stuff that pattitricia85 said. I don't like my salsa chunky, so I use a blender instead of chopping everything. It turns out more the conistancy of what is served in Mexican restaurants. The good thing about making your own is that you get to make it exactly how you like it. You could also add some onion if you like that. If you don't like cilantro, don't use it.
