Chia Seeds?

I have heard a lot about the great benefits to eating these in your foods or taking them in pill form, but is anyone using them? And are they really that great for you??

I'm eating them as an alternative to flax. They're an omega-3 source and have fibre too.

They are that good for you and taste much better than flax when mixed with things. I thought it was odd at first when I saw them, before they got more popular, so i did some research and its true...

They're a good source of healthy fats and are a great food if you're doing extended exercise and need some good slow-release energy. And they're tasty! I use them in smoothies and as a thickener in dishes where I used to use corn starch

  • They are very good for you.

You can throw them into anything - yogurt, smoothies, baking, pasta sauces, oatmeal.

Your body can process them whole (unlike flax which must be ground).

I put them in my yogurt - I kinda like the crunch. They are supposed to be really great for you :flowerforyou:

They're good for you, sure, but they're also fun.

They can hold something like 20 times their volume in water. Soak them in water and they form a gel.

Google chia pudding for recipes. You can blend any chia pudding recipe if you don't like the tapioca aspect. That also makes it set up fast.

This is my go-to breakfast of late:

    1/3 cup oats
    1.5 Tbsp chia seeds
1 cup soy or almond milk
    1 mashed banana.

Mix, refrigerate overnight. So good cold in the morning with peanut butter and a drizzle of maple syrup.

I like these much better than flax seeds. Chia seeds have NO taste unlike flax seeds, which have a kinda nutty flavor.

They do stick in every crevice of my teeth though.

Love them. I switch between Chia, Flax, and Hemp Hearts.
  • How much do you add? I just got some today. So i just dump them right into the yogurt "raw" and go

The conversion of ALA to EPA/DHA in humans is pretty crappy...
