I want to set my own calorie goal. Is there a way for me to do this? I feel 1220 is way too low and would rather it were higher. I'm eating about 1500 a day but I don't want it to look bad on my diary with all the red minuses!

    MY HOME> Goals> Change goals> Custom

You can reset your numbers to anything you want.

Ahhh, thanks :) Am I wrong to do it? Should I be sticking to what MFP gives me?

You need to figure out your own goals. We can't answer that without a lot more info.

    Here: read these -

Use the site as it is set up. Don't over-think this. Re-evaluate in a month. In the meantime, educate yourself. There are lots of conflicting ways to figure your calories. This site does a good job if you use it honestly and don't be too aggressive. If you work at all or go to school or care for children, you are NOT sedentary. Set your goals with the following in mind. If you do so, you'll be given enough calories. Add in exercise as you do it and eat that amount too.

If you have 75+ lbs to lose 2 lbs/week is ideal,
If you have 40-75 lbs to lose 1.5 lbs/week is ideal,
If you have 25-40 lbs to lose 1 lbs/week is ideal,
If you have 15 -25 lbs to lose 0.5 to 1.0 lbs/week is ideal, and
If you have less than 15 lbs to lose 0.5 lbs/week is ideal.
