I did not watch live- but i just watched a bit of the video. Pretty impressive. Thankfully he didn't fall. We were at the drive in and saw the fireworks going off.

I kind of feel like they were treating it like there was going to be a cure for cancer at the end of the walk- but in reality he is just opting to put himself in a ridiculously dangerous situation for no reason on live TV and in front of his children. And to the argument that he had a safety harness- if it's safe then why the fuss? I'm really not a negative nancy normally- I'm just not that impressed.

In a CNN clip, one of the Wallendas mentioned the safety thing adds weight, wind resistance, and other such factors.

Yeah, he did not want the harness, he said he never used one before.....but I am glad he wore it, just in case, cuz if he would have fallen, there would have be zero change of survival.....but he did say it made it a little more difficult.

Being from this area, I was so proud to see that.....although illegal for over a hundred years, daredevils at the falls have been a big part of our history. I studied it in school for years, and was a tour guide at the falls for many years when I was younger. I thought it was just awesome that people in 2012 got to experience something like that.

I also thought he did such a good job, he was steady, and calm, answering questions and talking the whole time. I also thought it was nice to see him talking to God during the walk. Overall it was just excellent......

We watched and hubby went from saying he wasn't going to be that impressed to acknowleding what an accomplishment it was - even with the safety harness. We, too, noticed that he was talking to God and loved that. :)

I live 90 minutes from Niagara so I've been there more time that I can count. The pictures on TV are great, but you really need to be there, getting blasted by that cold mist and hearing the roar of the water to appreciate what he did.

I did watch it and was totally impressed by his calm and composure. Good on him. Now, if the hotels in the area that made millions from this would only kick in a tiny fraction of their profits to help him actually cover the cost of the event....

My mom was in attendance in Puerto Rico when his great-grandfather died. She said it was awful and not quick and she refused to watch this one on TV even with the harness.

That said, Nik was really mad about the harness. This thing has been in the local media for so long - the permits issue, the worry about the area's "image" if Nik were to fall, etc. He said the harness would make it harder but the networks were going to pull their money and the locals were going to pull the permits so he didn't exactly have a choice.

It was impressive and stuff, but living in the area I could only help but laugh that the ABC crew doing the pre-show was on the Canadian side, which is waaaaaay nicer than the American side of the Falls. Good thing they didn't show downtown Buffalo either

I'm impressed that you're not impressed. That was an absolutely stunning feat.

That is so true.....I was stressed out just watching him so close to the water, I still cannot get over how calm he was.....
