I am expecting my first in a few weeks and was wondering if anyone could share some easy, quick recipes for my husband and I that we can manage with a new baby. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated! :flowerforyou:

Not a recipe, but advice my friend follows:
Cook on a Saturday or Sunday. Cook meals for the week. Freeze.
She cooks once a week, but they eat homecooked meals every night.

I think it's great advice too but I can't stand leftovers and am no good at making freezable casseroles!

Yeah...we'll see how I do at that. And we don't have a lot of freezer space, so it may be a challenge.

Slow cooker Salsa Chicken (I have a 1 year old)

    4 chicken breast
    1 cup of salsa
1 can of cream of mushroom soup low fat (do not add water)
1 pack of taco seasoning (reduced sodium)

Add all together and cook on low for 6-8 ( if you're like me, I wait to long so if you set to high, it will be done in 4 hours)

Serve over rice! AMAZING and low cal and low fat and easy!

  • Kirstinbee - some advice rather than a recepie from me too...
All those people who come to visit you and the new baby - especially the ones that insist on jiggling the baby and keep him/her awake during nap times - well, send them into the kitchen or show them where the hoover is! Honestly, most people are more than happy to help.

Also, if you have any sisters, neighbours, relatives or friends, ask if they can cook you something and bring it over. Call in all your favours now! Also, your DH/DP can look after you while you look after baby. If he cant/doesnt cook then now is the time for him to learn!

I find it handy to have rerlatively healthy food that require little or no preperation - fruit, cartons of soup, tins of beans, cereal bars, dried fruit, crackers, yoghurts, etc...
  • Hi my son is 9 months old. Dinner can be very hard in the begining, my advice is to try your best to plan ahead. My husband was most helpful if he knew what to do in advance. We bought Tupperware vent and serve containers so he could microwave the veggies fast. We also bought uncle bens brown rice in the microwavable pouches and all we would have to bake was a couple chicken breasts. I also say use a CROCKPOT, what a lifesaver! Good luck with your baby and remember that you are going ot need to eat whenever you are hungry at first, just make good choices. Having a baby takes alot of energy and you will need to get your strenght back.

Somewhere at home on my computer, I have a 60 page "book" (word doc or pdf...) of crock pot recipes. I'll have to find it and email it to you!

Crock pots are dear friends when time is short and you really can make just about anything in them!

Oh Lauryn can you please email it to me too? I'm not a new mom...my girls are 6 and 9 but I am a single mom going back to school on Sept 7th plus I work a full time job. Crock pots are my friend! LOL
  • These aren't all healthy recipes, but many of them can be altered. I agree, the crockpot is totally my friend, and I don't even have kids! Just a dog, two cats and a fiance! haha
