Hi all - joined recently and looking to improve my muscle tone. I'm thinking about starting p90x but seems like people either love it or hate it. Any advice or other routines you'd suggest before I plunk down the $$?

Would love to share support with you all, feel free to add me!

I like it myself. I hate the yoga so I just substitute and extra day of cardio or kempo for that and go on. You can tweak the program to your liking and still see results.

well naturally you want to eat right with any workout for best results. I personally didn't adhere to their diet or take any pills. I just went on a high protein diet and cut out breads, wheats, grains, and most starch's like potato's. Got off to a killer start weight loss wise (30 lbs in 6 weeks) before an emergency appendectomy side tracked me for 6 weeks but I kept the 30 off and have sense got back into the routine about 2 weeks ago and am closing in on 40 lbs overall. The main benefit that I see from p90x is the calorie gap that the workout creates cause it really does scorch some calories if you push yourself.

The program will definitely get you in shape and shed the fat. The supplements are overpriced.

thanks everybody, appreciate the insight =) i don't think i'd be able to stick to anything long-term that requires a lot of supplements so doing the workouts plus a manageable high protein diet might be the best way to go...

    Hey Blue Diva,
I saw your post and just wanted to comment. I have done both Power90 and Power90X after having my two youngest kiddos and found them to be pretty efficient at giving me the results I wanted within a reasonable time frame. I did not use any supplements or dietary aids since I was breastfeeding and to be honest I really don’t feel the need to – they just aren’t the way I want to go. As far as toning or “slimming down” I found Power90x to be more beneficial over just Power90 alone, combined with a 1200-1300 calorie diet. Both the exercises and overall setup and tone of the exercise program made me feel energized and confident that I would see results and it is easy to follow. Yoga is used throughout the program as a way to warm up and build endurance, cardio is short and sweet – but my overall favorite would have to be Kenpo X, which is the sixth DVD out of 12, for some reason I just like the level of cardio it provides. If you are looking for strength training Power90x offers a variety of exercises to choose from – if you want an added punch use bands! For the cost Power90x is worth it, you could probably find it reasonably priced on Amazon. I bought my copy for about $60 about four years ago and I still have it and use it on a daily bases. Are there specific areas you are wanting to improve, or are you going for an overall tone? Do you have any programs that you follow now?

It is a beach body program, and while they do want you to get in shape, ultimately like any business, they're trying to make money off of you. So don't fall for any of the extras as they're not necessary. Their recovery drink, their protein bars, their multivitamins etc. are just the cash grab to get more out of you.

Just eat the best you can, stay within your caloric limit and you'll be fine.

All I take for supplements are a decent whey protein (that I order online bulk here in Canada for about $40 for 5lbs) to fill in the gaps between meals and for post P90X workouts, and a good multivitamin.

I would recommend a whey protein for everyone working out (both trying to gain weight or lose), not just if you are interested in P90X.

By your picture, you look pretty fit already so this may not be an issue for you, but I do advise you take a look at the minimum fitness requirements so you get the most out of the workout. You can still do it without meeting the minimums of course, it's just that you won't get the advertised results.

Hello. You look in good shape at the moment. There is a gym instructor in a local gym near me and all she does is yoga and pilates. I mean this when I say this, she is in awsome shape. Personally I would add a bit of jogging in to burn extra fat. Try it and U could be awsome too :-)

It's great and it works to build muscle, tone, and shape. Read the reviews on amazon. It's for men and women. I don't take the pills. I use MFP for my diet program, and use cheap protein shakes instead of their expensive "recovery drink".
