what does 'bump' mean?

Hi - I see this all the time and have NO idea what it means! I often see it accompanied by smiles and laughs?

Help!

    Heather, I'll try to explain....

    It's actually a way to have a post move to your topics so you don't have to search and search and search again for one that you found and want to keep an eye on or post to.

    It also moves it up on the message board page to recently posted on, and more people may notice it.

    If I don't know any answer to a question, but think the question deserves to be seen again, I'll "bump" it (literally, write the word 'bump') so that it moves to the top of the RECENT POSTS message board.

    However, it's not important to use the word 'bump'. Anything you write "bumps" the post to the top of the list. "Bump" just indicates you are doing it intentionally.... I guess. LOL
