LOOKING FOR ADVISE FOR A FRIEND

Options
Hello Everyone,

It's been a while since I last checked in but I have a situation that I could really use some advise.

About 4 wks ago a friend of mine decided she needed to start losing weight. I don't know at what weight she started with but she's always been smaller then me and I know I'm smaller then her now. She signed up at the Gym that I go to. I was excited when she told me this so we decided it would be fun and motivational to go together. We set out goal of about 3-5 times a week. I even slowed down my excercise pace when I was with her so that she wouldn't feel bad she couldn't excercise for as long as I did or at the same intesity.

Well, she hasn't gone to the gym for like 2 wks now. Something about an abnormal TOM that's been really heavy and painful. Maybe because my days only last like 3 days I still find it hard to believe that a period could be that bad. Do any of you have times like this? I mean, really....2 wks? I ask her everyday.."so you going to the gym today"...and her response stays the same..."Oh, I've been really sick, this period is really bad and giving me so much pain". She said she went to the doctor and that she was told it was just her body cleansing because she doesn't always get her period every month.

Please I need your help! I want her to keep going, work out & eat healthy. I worry for her because she is soooooooo beautiful and I don't want her to really lose herself in this weight loss battle.

Thanks for listening! I look forward to any advise you can give me.

Hi, I suffer from long, agonizing periods that your friend suffers from.

It is possible that she is suffering from PMDD, PCOS, or BOTH!!!!

I suffer from both and I can tell you that she does not feel well. For me, I am lucky if I can get out of bed sometimes to function even in the least.

I found that cutting out grains and other processed foods helped me tremendously in that department.

all i can say, is you can really only help yourself. you can try to motivate her, but dont let it stop you from doing what you need because she isnt ready. Everyone has to make the change for themselves.

I don't think she is lying to you.

I'd push her to see her gyno. More than 7 days seems like an issue needing to be addressed by a specialist. :flowerforyou:

Oh WOW Lioness, If you hadn't said anything I would of thought my friend was just using a really lame excuse. She did say that there are times where she has to lay all day in bed because of the pain she's in. I'll be more understanding now.

In the mean time, I will continue to do my thing and when she is ready to jump back in then I will welcome her with open arms.

Thank You all for your advise.

I had my period for 6 weeks straight and I'm sure glad nobody doubted me. If she has had it for 2 weeks she will need to take iron because she will probably be anemic. If that is the case, exercise is the last thing on her mind

Yes, my hubby sometimes thinks I lay it on really thick until I got a diagnosis. He always told me no woman he had ever been around ever had the symptoms I had.

We as women are all different and some of us have a lot more issues in the female department than others.........

Like right now, I have been cramping for nearly 2 weeks and have not started TOM yet. I feel it building and it makes me feel awful............

I can't speak from experience but I do know an ex coworker that would save all her vacation and sick days because she was not regular but when she got it she went through pure hell and would use her time off for it.

As for myself I have always been regular and in December of 2008 I had my tubes cut and burned and ever since my cramps have been out of control and it really keeps me from working out but that is only 2-3 days tops.

    Hope your friend is ok.

I transcribe for a doctor that sees these types of problems. She can be put on birth control pills that can sometimes help, continuous or Seasonale. Yasmin is another good one. She could also try Depo-Provera or Depo-Lupron,which can sometimes help. She really needs to see her gyn and he/she can hep. In worst cases, a hysterectomy is sometimes recommended.

Yes. I've suffered from endometriosis for years. This is where the uterine lining deposits itself inside the womb and on various organs. This results in very heavy and painful periods that would sometimes last for over a month. Getting pregnant (not that I'm suggesting that:laugh: ) helps it for a few years and then it's back! It can also make it difficult for people to conceive. Please suggest that she see a dr! She doesn't need to suffer through this. I used to think every female felt like that during a period. The birth control pill can help with this as well. I'm on Seasonale and I rarely have a period. I also had laproscopic surgery where they laser it off. good luck:flowerforyou:
