Addicted need help

I am addicted to BAD food! For years I have struggled with my weight yo yo dieting. I have finally come to term with its a lifestyle chang that I need not a diet this has got to be permanent, but the problem is I dont know how to say no. I am 5'3" I weigh 157 my goal weight is 135 so I only got 22lbs to lose but I don't know how to do this I am 33 yrs old 2 kids a 10 yr old and a 1 yr old so my time is stressed I work 40 plus hours. Please any advice from someone who may have gotten thru this would be helpful I am not expecting over night results I want to do it right, but I just cant stick to a exercise routine or put the bad but yet so good food HELp

If all you can do is one change at a time, then so be it. You are only human (and a busy one, too, it seems ) and any steps in a positive direction help. I have a hectic schedule as well and have had to adapt: I pretty much go to the grocery store EVERY DAY after work and get stuff for healthy dinner fixings. I cook double portions for dinner and pack up the leftovers the same night in my lunchbox (and leave same for hubby, of course). Next day, same thing. Lather, rinse, repeat.:laugh:
It also has the benefit that there is now never any junky food in the house and I save big $$$ in the long run on grocery bills!
I wish you luck - I know that this kind of planning is so much harder with little ones, but you can do it! Then you can be a HOT MAMA!0 -
One of the best things about MFP is that you CAN have some of the "bad foods" once in awhile. I think that's why I've been able to do so well here, vs LOADS of other "diets/methods", including hypnosis, TWICE!
I learned that if I just "worked with my numbers", through moderation, good food choices (MOST of the time!) and got some exercise, that I COULD lose the weight that I wanted to. AND, after 8 months, I DID! And during that time, I gave myself a "bad" supper once a week usually! I also treated myself to stuff like a double cheeseburger from McDonald's about once a month, or even Chinese food every few months. It seemed that as long as I KNEW I wasn't totally deprived of all the "bad" stuff, I was able to be "good" most of the time and lost the weight!
Oh, and my exercising wasn't killing myself either, or spending lots of time and money going to a gym. I either walk, jog with my Wii Fit, or dance to an oldies CD that my husband made for me of all my favorite old songs. It's fun, easy, and is never boring since I can also watch tv at the same time too!

I one piece of advice I can give you is you have to really want change. If you do, then you can break the addiction. I have. It takes time, and willpower, but every day you eat healthy and not bad is one day closer to your body not craving those unhealthy choices.
It has been 5 months now for me, but I found that after about 3 months my body started to crave sugar and fats less and crave veggies and fruits more. I never thought it could be true, me, a junk food junkie, but it is, if you give it time, and make the effort.
Your body is an amazing machine, and it will crave the good fuel once it "detoxes" from the bad fuel it has been living on for so long.0 -
If I can do it, you can do it. A year before I even joined MFP I was 275 lbs and I'm only 5' 2" tall. If you start eating better, your body will start craving better things rather than the bad things, if you exercise enough, your body will start craving more exercise, etc.0

Don't try to make all your changes at once. Commit to making one change each month.
For example - month one-no pop, month 2 no chocolate bars,...:grumble:

Small Steps. Starting here helps a lot - learning the caloric value of everything you eat is a real eye opener.
Start slowly, adding more fresh veggies and fruit and eliminating processed foods one at a time. as you begin eating more fresh things, you will begin to replace the junk cravings with cravings for the good stuff.
At times you'll still crave the junk, but resisting it means that you're that much closer to the lifestyle you want. Before you know it, you'll be living the healthy lifestyle and you won't even know how that happened.

I don't buy crap I can't eat. Sorry kids....no chips, no sweets, no hamburgers, no fast food. I eat healthy, we ALL eat healthy. No snacking except yogurt, fruit, raw veggies, cottage/lowfat cheese, and pretzels for the kidlets.
If working out were dependent on me doing it at home, I'd never do it. So I joined a gym and I go every other day, as if my life depended on it (ok, it does). I schedule it with as much resolve as I do the children's PTA meetings, soccer matches, and my extra overtime to meet that deadline (I work two jobs).
I do let myself have a cheat day once a month or so...but let me tell you, it's hard to choke down a cheeseburger when I know it's going to cost me 90 mins of sweat and tears on the elliptical!! I do cheat, but it's damn well worth it when I do.
I do not look at this as temporary. It is permanent. I don't look longingly at the donuts, I walk by them without a second glance...because "I don't eat donuts". This takes practice. Changing your life is as much mental as it is physical, so don't let your subconcious sabatoge you. You are in control of your desires, your desires are not in control of you....right? RIGHT?? :happy:0 -
Think of it in terms of getting and staying healthy for your kids and your life. Your body can't function for too long on garbage before it revolts and says, "if you're gonna treat me like a garbage can, I'm not gonna give you much in return!". Makes sense. Your body wants to be fed delicious, healthy food so it can function properly. Food's main function is, afterall, to feed your body.0

I have three boys and I think everything in moderation was helpful for us. We get fast food but then at home I serve lots of veggies and even hide them in their food. We have ice cream out as a treat but keep none at home. If I never got the "treats" I probably couldn't make it. That way, eating good most of time and I get to look forward to the treats. and I LOVE fast food. Just try to make it as a special reward for eating healthy most of the time.0

You are right! This has been an unexpected benefit to me starting this healthy lifestyle. My daughter is losing weight! She's not obese by any means, but she can stand to lose a few pounds, and she is!
She's also walking with me every evening, and now I want to do the C25K three times a week and she's doing it too.
I am setting a good example and we're both having fun, and getting closer. We talk on our walks!!!
It's a wonderful thing all round.0
