Hi ladies,

I've lost 46 lbs using MFP, and just found out I am 10 weeks pregnant. I am classified as "Overweight" even after losing the 46lbs, so I am hoping to gain very little weight with this pregnancy. With my first I gained 50 LBS! So, I just need some motivation. Also, when I looked up what I should be eating (to gain 11 lbs during pregnancy) it was 2400 cals...I am very active, and that just seems like ALOT of calories to me. Any thoughts?? Curently, I have 1850 that I am eating, I upped from 1500.

COngrats on the pregnancy!! My youngest was a "weight loss baby"...I lost like 20 pounds and got pregnant!

as for the calories, 2400 calories does seem like a lot, but remember, 300-500 of those calories are for the baby, not for *you*. Your best bet is to ask your OB/GYN for guidance, and even see if you can get a referral for a nutritionist. Because I had metabolic syndrome when I got pregnant, I had a 95% chance of getting gestational diabetes ( I didn't) so I started testing my blood sugars at the end of my 3rd month, and got a nutritionist to guide me in a healthy eating plan. It was very helpful. I found out that the reason that I was *crashing* mid-morning was that I was not eating enough carbs in the morning.

That 500 calories that you don't think you can possibly eat? that really isn't that much. It could be as little as a glass of milk, a slice of cheese, a few crackers and a piece of fruit.

it IS quite possible to have a healthy pregnancy and not gain much...I know people who have done it. I was still 20+ pounds overweight when I got pregnant the last time and I wanted to keep my weight down, but it didn't happen. I'm pretty sure I gained about 40lbs. I lost 25-35lbs of it almost effortlessly....

Congrats on the pregnancy! I think the first reply had some excellent suggestions and feedback for you! Healthy mom and healthy baby--do what it takes to have both. You can do this.

You can do it. I was obese when I had my first baby (three months bed rest didn't help). So I went into my second pregnancy very overweight. But I noticed that I didn't gain as much with my second - I ate better and walked a lot more. I still gained but it wasn't too bad. so - if I can do it, you can do it. My doctors said not to worry about weight loss or big gains during the pregnancy. They wanted me to focus on staying active (walking or swimming) and eating healthy food. good luck!
  • CONGRATULATIONS!

I agree w/ the above poster- seeking guidance from a nutritionist would be IDEAL-
YOU and the BABY are SO worth the investment- for BOTH your health's sake.

I've never been pregnant and I'm not an expert, but I found this website: http://www.freedieting.com/tools/pregnancy_calorie_calculator.htm

I would recommend talking to your doctor about your caloric needs!
