Asthma and Chest Pain

I'm wondering if anyone else that has asthma gets chest pain when they do cardio? My asthma doc recommended taking my albuterol inhaler just prior to working out but it just seems to make my heart pound harder. The pain increases with each breath and is reproducible so I'm 99% sure this is not heart-related (I'm an ER nurse which helps here). It really slows me down when my body could do so much more and is very frustrating. I was going for the C25K program yesterday and the pain in my lungs is the only thing that kept me from completing it.
Has anyone found anything that helps or have a similar experience? I'm not a big fan of maintenance inhalers as I get a lot of side effects from them (heart-pounding, shaking, restless, etc) and frankly they haven't done a lot for me. I'm a Xolair patient (if you don't know what that is - it's basically a last ditch medication for allergic-asthma patients that can't be controlled). Any suggestions or thoughts are appreciated :)
