Hi. I've just started to attempt to lose weight. I have a gym in my building that I can use as often as I want but I don't kno what I should do. Ive tried looking on the interent on what i should do but nothing give me a routine. any help would be appreciated. I have not really done much exercise in a long time besides taking my dog for a walk to the park to play which is 5 mins away. Please help what should I do and how do I advance.

Walking is a good start no matter your fitness level, swimming, Pilates (great low-impact stretches), bike riding. Jillian Michaels also has some DVD's for beginners.

As long as you enjoy the exercise OP, you will find it so much easier to stick with.

I read on the forums around a week ago that somebody (cannot remember who it was now) was doing running as their exercise but detested it, even reading the post you could see where that would eventually end, that particular person would be highly likely to jack it all in due to hating the activity they had chosen.

All of those activites Julie suggested are great ones, just make sure you like doing whatever you choose.

    Walking.
  • Walking is the easiest in my opinion and enjoyable.

Walking is the best. If you have a gym membership, then add cycling, and weights. It is best to keep it simple and add something new each week.

walking, that is a good brisk walk preferably at least some uphill or incorporating stairs and elevating the heart rate, lasting for an hour, 5-7 times a week is good for any level. Especially for heavy people i think walking is enough because diet is much more important, and it can take too much mental energy trying to focus at both at the same time. baby steps.
Jillian Michaels 30 DS is great because its only 20 mins and its only 30 days so its a great way to ease into it.
If you go to a gym be careful, the instructions given thus far are too vague and could result in you wasting a lot of time and energy for little return. Get a good trainer or make sure you really use the gym instructors for their expertise if you hit the gym .

Try Jillian Michaels 30 day shred. It only takes about 25 min start to finish. What a workout.

Walking is great exercise no matter what. It's easy on your body, requires no equipment, and you can do it almost anywhere. Weight lifting of some sort will help you build muscle. I recommend it if can do it.

Don't discount walking the dog as "not exercise"! If your dog is able, walk at a brisk pace and do it for 30 minutes. (I would walk longer, but I have a small dog and 30 minutes is about all he can handle, haha.) That's an easy once a day activity that benefits your dog and doesn't even seem like exercise. My other "go to" exercise is spinning (stationary bike) - I go to the YMCA. Spinning is aerobic and burns a fair amount of calories (45 minutes spinning burns 350 calories). The other plus is it is easy on your joints and since it is done to really upbeat music it's easy to get "into the zone" and then it sort of doesn't feel like work. I am always tired when I get done and then minutes later I feel energized and ready to tackle the day. Otherwise "google" beginng weight loss exercise routines on the internet and just start trying things out... Best wishes and good luck in your pursuit of exercise!

I wouldn't call the 30 Day Shred "easing into it" just because it's a relatively short workout :noway:

I agree on walking. Increase speed and time walking as you can and try to keep your heart rate up.
