New Shoes :)

Hey guys,

Just wanted to take a sec and highly recommend getting fitted for proper running shoes to anyone who hasn't tried it yet! I've been trying to improve at running for at least a year now, but would always get this horrible pain in my shins. I thought that if I "pushed through," the pain would go away with time, and just ended up really disappointed with myself. I think I'm otherwise in reasonable shape so it really bothered me that I couldn't run!

Well yesterday I decided to take peoples' advice, and finally went into a "real" running store. The thought of it really intimidated me due to my lack of running skill, but the experience was actually very comfortable and non-embarrassing. There were people of all fitness levels in there getting fitted. The running guy had me jog on a treadmill for about 30 sec and then stand on a mat which analyzed my feet. He played back a video of me jogging in slow-mo and diagnosed me as an over-pronator with extra high arches.

He brought out a bunch of boxes of shoes (which felt ahhh-mazing on) and, $117 later, I left with a pair of Mizuno Wave Precision 12s. Another factor that made me put off getting fitted was knowing that I would have to pay full price for a pair of sneakers at one of these places. I love and appreciate quality items, but I'm also a huge bargain shopper! I feel the price tag was well worth it, and will probably shop around on Amazon, etc. in the future but much better informed!

I went out for a jog today and was actually able to enjoy it! I was waiting for the shin pain to come on, but it never did! I still have a long way to go, but can finally make some progress. I could only jog about 7 mins max on a treadmill on 4.5 speed because of the pain, but the pain I had today is definitely something I can "push through." And I totally felt like I was cheating on Jillian while doing my 30 Day Shred video, SO much more comfortable.

Anyway, just wanted to share my experience with anyone who might also be struggling with running AND to show off my cute new shoes :)

Congrats on your new shoes! A proper fitting made all the difference for me, so I'm glad to see others get one too.

As a note - your pain today: was it the same as before or was it in a different place. Just asking because I noticed that the first few times I ran after wearing new shoes, I had minor pain in my thighs since my feet were striking the ground differently and my muscles had to get used to that (I was exerting muscles I hadn't been previously). Hopefully, you are having the same problem and it will go away after a few runs.

Good luck & cute shoes!! :)

Good for you -- getting fitted properly makes all the difference.

I love Mizunos, too (although, their sizing is always a bit challenging). If you're looking for a source for cheap Mizunos, I buy from runningwarehouse.com. I've found their prices to be pretty good (your Mizunos, which I have, are priced at $83) and they have free shipping and free returns. Worth checking out next time you need a new pair.

    Anyway, enjoy your new shoes!
