Okay, I'm asking advice. I keep seeing everyone mention how many steps in a day and using HRM and really think one or other or both could be beneficial to me. I know I do have a high heart rate. If you were to suggest one or the other, which would you recommend? Is there a good(affordable) brand out there that does both? Hoping for some advice/help on whether to make this purchase. Thanks

I recommend you buy these items seperately. There is a lot out there on MFP on both items. I recommend buying them seperately. I recommend the $5 Pedometer from Wal-Mart and Polar HRM which cost $80 to $100 depending on what you want from it. I have had my Polar for 9 years and it is still good. I did have to purchase a new chest strap about 2 years ago for about $30 on ebay.

See blog below for more detailed info on purchasing a HRM:

Just dumped my Polar, not comfortable and you cannot change batteries yourself on the device. My daughter has had a Timex for sometime and loves it so much I have just sent after mine. If you can't do a HRM right away the fitbit is cool. I love my fitbit

It is true you should not change Polar battery yourself. But you can have them changed at any watch battery repair or a sports shop that sales the product.

I'm gonna tell you right now, that you made a big mistake. Timex's are very inaccurate for calories burned.. while Polar is one of the best at estimating calories burned. If you have an older Polar(the F series) you can't change the battery yourself.. however with the newer FT series, all the batteries are user replaceable.

    To OP:
Just invest in a good Polar HRM.. I don't see a need for a pedometer on top of an HRM.

I also trust Polar because all the machines at most health clubs and gyms have Polar HRM on them, so that means they are the most accurate. Keep in mind no HRM is 100% accurate but some are more accurate than others.
