In Honor of Pete

My hubby has been in the hospital with a bad infection. He has been in 4 days now and will hopefully come home tomorrow. He is doing well. HIs roommate was this tiny man named Pete. He had been a deputy fire chief for 35 years and was sick due to all the asbestos he inhaled fighting fires. He weighed 85 pounds. They had proscribed him medical marijuana to try to get him to eat. He was old, skinny, and could barely move but accordingto his wife he was still taking care of himself. He had to eat through a stomach tube. He would love to be able to eat a real meal. He would love to be overweight. He told me that he had lived his life and if he dies, he dies. Pete signed himself out of the hospital yesterday. His wife knows he may die. He knows he is going to die. He said that there was nothing they could do in the hospital but watch him die and he did not want to go out that way. I said good bye to Pete and knew I would probably never see him again. I also know he will most likely be dead in a few weeks, if that. So in honor of Pete, I am not logging today. I am eating reasonable portions, but not counting calories. I had cream of broccoli soup for lunch and will eat a roast beef and cheese hoagie for dinner. I will have a snickers bar. I will have a chocolate pudding. I will go back to logging my calories tomorrow or maybe Tuesday. I will eat reasonable portions within my calories. I will enjoy my exercise and my weight training like I usually do. I will always think of Pete when having a "bad" food day and not feel guilty anymore.
