Why no calories burned for strength training?

I'm very new to all of this. I am trying to do 40-50 minutes of cardio exercise five days a week, plus 20-30 minutes of strength training (weight machines) five days a week. The cardio exercise list calories burned but the strength training exercises do not. Can anyone tell me why? Doesn't strength training burn some calories as well? I figured just breathing burns calories! If I'm not burning calories while strength training, maybe I'll give that up for lent! :noway:

A heart rate monitor worn during your exercise will let you know how many, it's varies so much.

Got it! I just searched under cardio for strength training and found weight lifting calories! Thanks! It does make a difference. Although now I guess I don't have an excuse to give it up.

I log 40 minutes of strenght training every morning - MFP calls it 190 calories.

My HRM sez it's way more than that. I do 30 minutes elliptical first and go straight from that to the bench, so I'm still coasting 120BPM or better when I pick up the dumbs. I figger that makes the HRM register high on the calories.

I do a pretty big workout, 2 sets of everything, and I really hustle to get it done in 40 minutes, so I'd say it's cardio-helpful too. I ventilate well and sweat heavy through the whole thing. Probably worth 190 calories.

I'm progressing well, still on a deficit and losing some (so slowly,,, down around 15% now) - but I'd bet I'm losing 2lbs a week of bodyfat and gaining a pound of muscle mass.

Yes, "Circuit training, general" dones the job!
There might be other entries here: www.fitday.com

And Thanks to Casper for your "circuit"!
Most of my weight loss occurred when doing weight training
3x a week and meeting regularly with a trainer.

I can't afford more sessions and am bored with my program!
Need to get back to the weights! Cardio isn't enufff.............

Well take what you've been doing and change it up Barb,,,

What part of your body do you want to be better? Pound it! What are you happy with? Work some to maintain it,,, I know trainers are great and they can help a lot, but this ain't rocket surgery - you can adjust your routine and do your own thing.

Boot camp is circuit training then
I used to add aerobic & strengh training for my boot camp.
