My dietician gave me a chart showing examples of healthy carbs. Here's what's in the list starting with THINGS TO CHOOSE MOST OFTEN:
-Bannock, whole grain bread (1.5x2.5 ")
-Barley, bulgur (1/2 cup cooked)
-Bread, whole grain (1 slice)
-Cereal, hot (3/4 cup cooked)
-Chapati, roti, tortilla, whole wheat (one 6")
-Corn, kernel (1/2 cup)
-English muffin, whole grain (1/2)
-Pasta, couscous (1/2 cup cooked)
-Plantain mashed, sweet potato (1/3 cup)
-Pita bread, whole wheat (half of a 6")
-Potatoes, boiled, baked (1/2 medium, 150g)
-rice, millet (1/3 cup cooked)
-Soup, thick type, not creamy (1 cup)
And then suggestions of carbs to CHOOSE LESS OFTEN:
-Bagel (1/4 large, 1/2 small)
-Bannock, fried (1.5x2.5")
-Bread, white (1 slice)
-Bun, hamburger or hotdog (1/2)
-Cereal, flaked unsweetened (1/2 cup)
-Crackers, soda type (7)
-Croutons (3/4 cup)
-French fries (10)
-Naan bread (quarter of a 6")
-Pancake, waffle (one 4")
-Pita bread, white (half of a 6")
-Pizza crust (one-twelf of a 12" pizza)
-Taco shells (two 5")
All of the serving sizes next to the examples are considered ONE serving.
Hope that helps0 -

I tend to choose
strawberries
grapefruit
nectarines
orange
bananas (sparingly= once or twice a month)
orange juice (sparingly)
Asparagus
broccoli
green beans
tomato
Lima beans/butter beans ( 3 times a week max)
popcorn
raisins
corn (sparingly)
White potato/sweet potato (2 times a week max)
peanuts
milk
yogurt
table sugar
oatmeal with honey
I allow myself to eat bread on Sunday and it's usually 2-3 small rolls, biscuit or croutons depending on restaurant. If I am very hungry during the week I will quarter a piece of nature's own bread to hold peanut butter but that is usually only once a month. Otherwise no bread.0 -

I would go w/ the good carbs.
Oatmeal, brown rice, sweet potatoes, or even try fruits (apples, berries, etc). Beans are great too, full of fiber and protein too! :bigsmile:0
