Petrol Heads - Any Petrol Heads arround here?
Hi, i reckon that we have a Majorly female activities in this forum, but i also reckon that some of you girls and ladies do like cars and bikes, also: Men! stand up and lets talk about cars! like men do!
I'll start
I am a petrol head, i love old cars the most, in my collection i have some cars, i will talk about each one of them at a time so this topic may last longer
I will start with one of my old time favourite
an Opel Calibra
(Taken from Google, will post a real picture later)
This is one of the most aerodinamic cars ever build, with only 0.26CD it has 204 BHP and it's capable of doing 155mph (250kph), it is a very beautiful car designed by an america designer from GM Wayne Cherry who also was in the team for designing some of the american cars that you are more familiar with: the Pontiac Firebird (original one) and the Camaro.
I own this car since 2001 i think.
How about you? talk about one or more cars that you own so we can learn a little bit more about yourself, because we can know a lot about the owner of the car by the car that he drives
Cheers

Hi. My dad has a '56 Corvette (which I would love to have), so I have always loved the 'vette. My first car was a '79 Chevy Camaro Z28, followed later by an '87 Firebird Formula. I no longer have either, but I sure miss them. Had to get a full size truck to tow our trailer for trips with the kids.0

I don't think I'm a petrol head but I like cars. My first new car was a 1989 Daytona. It was white with burgundy interior and a T roof. It could really go ! We had to sell it because it wasn't easy to get babies in and out of it. Right now I drive a 2005 Jeep Unlimited (2 door) . I love it.0

I'm a very bad example of a petrol head (I have to admit as an American, I was scared to find out what that meant exactly! ) But I've had some nice wheels in my time.
My first car was a '67 vet, it was green and rusty. I traded it for a 1978 silver. It was niiice- but not practical as I was learning to drive, so then I got a 70's model 450 Mercedes, I still own that one, but I drive it infrequently.
I really regret that last trade. Should've stuck with the corvette, I"m afraid. Oh wells. You live and learn I suppose!
My husband is more of a muscle car/speed dude and owns a 1974 Chevy Nova and a 2007 Eclipse.0 -
the 2007 eclipse is a very pretty car. The Chevy nova is also very classic.
As for the Vetts they are one of my Fav old Timers for an American Muscle Cars,
I dont know if you knew this but American Cars have a bad reputation here arround europe, altough i still think that a Vette is one of the greatest american Muscle Cars every build, in my opinion better than the mighty mustang.
I just love how the stingray looks!
as for Mercedes, that's another chapter for me, as one of my favourite brands is the Mercedes Benz
Will post some more later, i really got to get some sleep
cheers0 -
A ha.... found it and i too am a BIG petrol head....
I currently drive a Red Audi S5. Previously had the S4 Avant and am a definate Audi convert. Stayed within the family previously with a Golf GT Tdi and one of my fav cars of all time my Pre 2007 facelift Seat Leon Cupra FR. What a machine.... body work and interior shocking but the engine OMG it just went and went and went....
I have two toys that are my pride and joys to which are my two other children in addition to the two flesh and blood ones that i am lucky to have.
1. Peugeot 205GTi 1.9. She is an ex Eurohaus show car in sorrento green and pre cat conversaiton but with PAS and air con. Full leather interior with TSW alloys. lowered on gas by 1.1/4 inches with a K&N filter to give her an extra 2bhp and a Scorpion full stainless system. A real head turner and just throaty enough to get the other hot hatches out of the way. There are a few other mods that i have done mainly cosmetic but have replaced hoses and HT leads etc to keep her running well...
2. Second is Argie Bargie as per my AV. Tintop T2 westy with a TSR Subaru engine conversion. Freeway flyer gearbox, lowered, 3/4 berth bus. A pleasure to drive but a real money eater as always loads to do. Just finishing the uprated brakes and suspension and have recently replaced fridge and table. A real head turner and although not on the VW scene have been to a few of the local meets. i think i would live in him all the time if i could as with the addition of the small plasma and updated sound system but nothing to garish what else could i want.... oh yea must rember the mrs and the kids....ha ha0 -

nice cars! and glad that you mencioned the 205 GTi
Here's my Second prize beauty:
Before (with my calibra near it)
after:
As you can see it's a Peugeot 205 Roland Garros Cabriolet completly restored
This is designed by Pinifarina like all 205's and it has a 1.4 dual carb 8v engine that produces 85bhp
top speed - not fast enough but what i really like about this car is the handling and style!0 -

handlin in these cars is awsome, my mates you to take the piss out of me as they were all mrk 2and Mark 3 golf drivers and said they handled much better. I soon showed them as with mine much lighter and quicker excelleration it was no contest. Agreed on the body work as the 205 was much tinnier than the VW but as for looks and power, no competition. I have had 5 205GTi's. I have always wanted a Rallye or a 205GT as the GT had the twin carbs but have stuck with the GTi based on looks. My best GTi was 1.9 again but in Maimi Blue with full leather which i have used in my current one as it only had the half leather. my current sorrento green is near the RG version which you have but you got the cream leather interior right??? Can't see the pics in your post as not come through.
Have also had a white 1.6Gti and a gun metal grey and a laser green 1.9. Was a bit bright for me that one but as always drove like a dream.0 -
i do like the sorrent green
