What kind of results can I expect when I start P90x? How often should I do this? What kind of additional gear do I need? Someone is giving me their P90x so I have no idea anything about this...

Fun! You will love it but will see results only if you stick with it. Measure measure measure!! The first time I tried P90X I did not. I gained 4 pounds in the first couple of weeks and quit. Thought, this is for guys. Started again and measured stomach, thighs, chest etc... Kept a log and measured weekly. Even if my weight was not moving on the scale I was losing an half inch to an inch a week! It is because I was gaining muscle. Also, if the moves are hard don't give up. Just modify to what you can do. For example their Rock Star Jumps hurt my knees and ankles. So when they do those I just do jumping jacks. Out of all the work outs I have (which is a lot) I have had the best results from P90X. Would also recommend a heart rate monitor. If you can't get one google P90X calorie burn calculator. It gives a pretty good estimate if you are giving it your all during the workout. Last, I hate the yoga. It sucks and is way to long. So I skip that one and do another one I do like. Hope this helps!
There is a lot of info online. You can print a calendar that tells you the work out schedule.0 -
You will need adjustable dumbbells or bands, a pull-up bar, or door attachment for the bands. The program is 6 days/week alternating strength training days with "other" workouts included in the DVD's.
This program is intense and you will get out of it what you put into it. Make sure you eat enough to fuel your workouts. The minimum caloric intake while on this program is suggested to be 1800, and I would not go lower than that. This is not net cals, so if you eat 1800 but burn 500, that would be 1300 net.0 -
It's some pretty tough stuff. Don't give up if you can't do all of the routines. Just modify and do what you can. In due time you will improve. Be patient0

Are there alternate things you can do if you don't have all of those routines that require the accessories?0 -
Sorry meant all of those accessories for the routine...0

I don't have the chin up bar so I use the weight bands and hook them to the door. On the tapes the show the modified moves with the weight bands if you don't have a chin up bar. You will need at the very minimum a couple of weight bands or free weights.0

Ok good, I have free weights but not all of that extra stuff, thanks :-)0
