Hi All!

I delivered our second child about 2 1/2 weeks ago, and I did wind up with some stitches. I'm obviously waiting until my 6 week checkup to start anything major, but I was hoping to hear how some of you got back to it after having a baby. I was a runner before I got pregnant, but I did not run during the pregnancy since I've had a previous miscarriage. I would love to go back to 30DS and 5K's, but I know that's not a realistic expectation right away.

First, congrats on the new little one:) The day I got clearance from my dr to start working out, I went and joined the gym, and had my first session with my trainer the next day. We started light and easy, especially since I had been on slightly modified bed rest for the entire third trimester due to severe spd and si instability. Ever since (and my youngest in almost 9 months), I've been slowly, progressively building my strength and endurance back up. Until you see the dr, walking with baby in the stroller or a carrier would be a great way to spend some time - just take it easy and if you find your lochia increasing, you know you've been pushing to hard.

Like....a LOT of stitches? I had to get like *a* stitch with my first and started walking on the treadmill at 2 weeks post (mind you I did gain 100lbs to walking was pretty intense). I started jogging the next week. With my second baby, I was jogging at 10 days but I worked out through that pregnancy and had no stitches. Just really be in tune with your body and stop when it tells you to.

Um,... sorry if it's TMI, but I tore three ways, and they had to do stitches in two of the three tears. The one was pretty bad, and actually still gets sore if I'm especially active. I also stayed active during my pregnancy, but it was mainly walking and biking. :-)

if you tore significantly, you need MAJOR time to heal. no tub baths or swimming until after your 6-week pp check-up. congrats by the way!!!

to start slowly, walk to the mailbox, or push baby in stroller for about 5 min. rest, keep your feet elevated and drink TONS of water, esp if b-feeding. a few days later, increase walking. i wouldn't bike since that might cause too much irritation. yoga would be fabulous, as it wouldn't put any stress in "that area." there are also some mommy/baby classes/videos you could try which incorporate using your baby as "weight" and holding him/her to do exercises.

personally, i would wait until at least 6-8 weeks pp before doing anything like heavy weight lifting or running. your dr should clear you after that, if everything is healing properly.
