too many choices for at home programs.. which one??

I have stopped and started things too much over the past few years.

A 60 day or 90 day, or 30 day challenge seems to never make it past he 1 week mark.

Sometimes it is because i find it boring.. sometimes I don't do it a few times and then by habit i just forget about it.

I WANT TO CHANGE THIS

I know one of my issues is that i start too many things too quickly... like, okay lets change the way I eat, the way I exercise and everything all at once. That is too much for me.

I am now comfortable in the way I am eating.. and logging every day with MFP! which is awesome!
I really like my new friends that I have met on here, and now I am ready to change the next part of my life...
Exercise.

I want to do an at home work out program.. that has a clear start and stop so that I can compare the before and afters.
I want to do this because the daunting task of getting fit seems to vague and long term.
That is still my long term goal, but short term I want something measurable.

So, What is your favourite at home program, and why??

Cheers, Cara

The most popular one on this site seems to be Jillian Michael's 30 Day Shred. 3 Levels, 10 days spent on each level, 30 Days, 27 minutes each work out session.

    27 minutes seems do-able...
is it quite repetitive, or does it keep changing to keep it interesting....

    what equipment do you need??

i did the 30 day shred in may, i loved it, although some things in it are repetive, but you get good results. I am doing her Ripped in 30 now, its lays out 4 weeks, each week or 7 days is completley different. :) i am starting week 3 tomorrow. level 1 and 2 were completley different. so its a good balance and not the same old workout. :)

Lift weights: Rippetoe's Starting Strength, or StrongLifts 5x5 or NROL. 3-4x/week
    Cardio: HIIT or intervals 1-3x/week
    Rest: 1 day per week

If you have trouble sticking to one because of boredom, then get two or three good videos and just alternate them. I have JM 30 day shred, and I've done it a couple times... it got incredibly boring the last time, so I alternated it with Biggest Loser Boot Camp (which is a wonderful video, btw). It was a lot less monotonous that way. ;)

LOVE Body Revolution. 90 days, 30 minutes a day, 6 days a week. SO worth it!

Each Level is different. So you do the same thing for 10 days, then a different routine for another 10 days, and then once more.
You just need a mat if you're on a hard surface and some hand weights (dumbbells).

I have 30 Day shred and Ripped in 30. I like them. I like Ripped in 30 because it is something different for each level. That said I change up levels. I got bored with doing the same level for a week.

I also have Billy Blanks Ultimate Bootcamp and Taebo Power which I throw in every once in a while for variety. That said I only do videos 2-3 days a week max. (Zumba at my church and running take over the other days.)

I have never belonged to a gym so all my workouts are at home or outside. My very favorite in home exercise is Zumba (DVD or game) because it is SO much fun and doesn't feel like a workout, but still leaves me soaked with sweat. Others I like are step aerobics, calisthenics and machines (treadmill, eliptical, stairmaster). The machines tend to get boring after a while and become useful as a place to dry clothes that don't do well in the dryer. Then months later, they become fun for a while again (mostly in winter).

For outside exercises, I like running, intervals of sprinting/walking, riding a bicycle, jumping rope and hiking (LOVE to hike).

I've tried several and the only one that holds my interest and motivates me to do it every day is p90x. It's a different workout every day of the week, so I don't get so bored. Plus, the schedule changes as you move through the program. Some of it seems overwhelming at first when you can't do everything they are doing, but every time you do a workout, you get stronger and able to do more. I completed my first 90days in mid-April and then tried Jillian Michaels Body Revolution. Personally, I just couldn't get into that one, even though I did like that it was only 30 minutes. I just started another round of p90x and feel really great!

    Whatever you decide, good luck!!

Whichever one you'll do is the one that's right for you. I've done and enjoyed the 30 Day Shred, but I've also used Richard Simmons DVDs, Leslie Sansone's Walk Away the Pounds, and some Bellydance for Fitness DVDs I have around. I also take long walks in the part of my neighborhood with the worst hills. Find something you enjoy and that you'll do consistently.

I like Jillian Michaels DVD's too. Get a few and alternate!!! Just because it says 30 day shred does not mean you have to do it 30 days in a row (in fact it's recommended that you don't). Mix em up a bit. I also like Leslie Sansone's walk at home DVD's. They are simple yet you'll work up a sweat and if I get bored in the middle of one or find it too easy I'll pumped up the workout by adding some of my own circuits -

    100 jumping jacks
    90 crunches
    80 squats
    70 leg lifts
    60 jumping jacks
    50 crunches
    40 squats
    30 leg lifts
    20 jumping jacks
    10 minutes of running

Also Xfinity and other 'cable' companies offer free workouts in their ON DEmand section. I know Netflix has workouts as well. The trick is to have a lot of choices available to you to keep it interesting!
