Feet numbness?

I just started working out about 3 weeks ago, and as I've been able to put in more time on the Elliptical, I've noticed that if I go much more than 30 minutes without a break, my feet start getting tingly and numb. Has anyone else experienced this? Is it something I should be concerned about, or will it go away as I lose weight and get stronger? Thanks!

I have that happen on rare occasion. I'm told it's because my shoes were tied too tightly, even though they didn't feel too tight. I am more aware now of how I tie them, and it hasn't happened since.0

That's a common question around here - and the majority of the answers will tell you to change shoes or tie them differently. I had the problem at home but was barefoot.
I found my issue was in my Piriformus Muscle being tight - rubbing on my sciatic nerve, and getting foot numbness. Once I started working with a massage therapist to stretch my piroformus muscle, the pain has gone away and never returned. Another cause can be uneven legs. I also worked on strengthening my hips which made a big difference as well.0 -
I get the same thing. Some tell me I need better sneakers. But I found the longer I do it and push through the longer I can do the elliptical without getting the numbness. Now don't get me wrong my feet still get numb but I can do the elliptical longer without getting numb.0

Is it your whole foot, or just your toes? The toe issue could be a shoe fit problem.
There's a nerve that runs up the top of your foot, and if you happen to have a high arch, having your shoes laced tightly over that nerve can cause tingling/numbness in the toes. Different shoes, or different methods of lacing can alleviate that.
*learned this yesterday at my local running store. Who knew?0 -
This is an issue I have been dealing with for quite sometime and am now slowly getting over. First I will say what EVERYONE said to me.....Maybe it's your shoes? Not wide enough, tied too tight, just the wrong fit all together. Being fitted for and getting the correct shoe for your needs and goals are very important. But this was not the case for me. My problem came from an upper back issue. I foudn this out after barely being able to walk or even stand. I thought maybe I had slipped a disc. My doctor rx'd physical therapy. It turned out my back was pretty much locked, my muscles were so tight they were frozen. I had never been one for stretching or didnt really even know how, nor am i at all flexible. But after 6 months on pt learning the correct and right types of stretches that would help me I am now able to run for 45 mins without even a tingle. Before my feet and legs would fall asleep after about 20 mins. So your issue could be 1) your shoes or 2) you need to stretch. And even if these aren't the cause of your problem they may be part of the solution, and are very important in general for working out.0

I get this, too. It is in the front half of my feet (the heel is fine). I've had it for years. Maybe my shoes are too snug in some ways, but I think it's also weight-related. Because I have fatter feet and swelling from carrying so much extra weight on my frame, shoes really aren't going to fit ideally. You can widen the space where they lace up but the part over the toe cannot be expanded properly. My feet start getting serious pins and needles on the elliptical (and certain bikes) in as little as 10 minutes. One thing that I do to make the elliptical more bearable is to switch to reverse mode, with more weight on my heels, when the tingling gets too severe. It helps dissipate the sensation somewhat. I also think that the foot never really leaving the surface that you are stepping on, for elliptical or bike, may be a contributing factor... as i do not have the same problem when I'm walking on a treadmill or doing other stepping exercises, in the same shoes.0
