my cerebal palsy member

Hi! For those who don't know me I manage a gym in Sydney, a non-intimidating small facility. We have lots of members who inspire me every day, and a couple with mild cerebal palsy.

Yesterday I met somebody else who will inspire me for a long time to come. She is in a wheelchair, in her 40s, and her cerebal palsy means that she now finds it difficult to walk. She rolled on in yesterday and asked about the gym.

After working out what her needs were and going through the gym with her to see if the equipment could be used we concluded that with the assistance of a personal trainer to help her through getting on and off equipment and movement she could do it.

She told me that she was at the stage where she needed either regular physiotherapy or to try and gain more movement in a gym. She would rather the gym as it was more fun. She had a twinkle in her eye and the mind of a much younger person than her body suggests.

So she's trying the gym. I can't wait to see her in there breaking all the boundaries that many able bodied people would think she couldn't do, and she will inspire so many of my members who find it "just too hard" to get to the gym.

And my 25km run this Sunday will be so much easier if I do it thinking of her, and how much she would love to be able to do it with me.

I'll keep you posted :)
