Gym newbie

 OK so I haven't stepped foot in a gym in...oh...say like years! My new gym opened up and I walked in and became overwhelmed the moment I walked in. This gym has a huge studio with tons of cardio equipment, circuit training and free weights. I was mesmerized by the bright lights, the smell of fresh paint and 14 TVs in front of me. "Not bad for $9.99 a month", I tell myself.
In my euphoric state of mind, I felt like I wanted to walk back out the door from where I walked in. I have NO IDEA WHERE TO BEGIN. Do I start on a treadmill, bike, elliptical? Then what?
For those who are like me, or can offer some pointers, please help me figure this out where to begin and what to work on before I give up before I even start!

Does your gym offer a free personal trainer visit or gym equipment orientation? You should ask and take them up on that. I have learned most of the stuff just by watching others. :-)
I tend to lean towards my favorites all the time but sometimes branch out. Try the elliptical and crank up the resistance. Gives your legs a good workout and cardio too. The circuit is nice but that is where you might need that orientation. If not, my gym has pictures on all with instructions (or just people watch).
Also, if they have classes a lot of people like those.0 -
You don't have any idea what type of work outs you want to do? Lol. I personally can't stand the cardio equipment. It bores me to death. I use the weights.0

You cant go wrong with treadmill and elliptical. Have a plan before you go, do you want to do cardio or strength training, etc. Take some music, so that you get lost in tunes and not time. I take my kindle to read to keep me from worrying about how long I been on "x" machine. Happy workouts!0
