Doc says no sweat--help!

I had LASIK this weekend (hurray! I can see!), but now I'm not allowed to get sweat in my eyes for 4 weeks. And I tend to sweat a lot when I work out. This was not something I was aware of before the procedure (I thought it'd be 1-2).

Any ideas? I love my new vision but I don't want to gain a million pounds for it!

I don't know if it would work 100% but I'm thinking a bandana tied around your head, like down over you forehead or maybe a really think headband or hat?

I'm thinking about Lasik too :) My eyes aren't really bad and I've only had glasses since September but I'm already tired of them lol

A terri-cloth headband placed just at your hair line so it will catch any sweat that runs down. Maybe check out a sporting good store or a local walmart or such for one. Good luck. There got to be a way aound it!!

No sweat in your eyes....because you absolutely should not rub your eyes under any circumstances. So a nice Richard Simmons type headband to keep the sweat from dripping in your eyes should do the trick!

Buy a mini trampoline and wear swimmer's goggles.
    Simple!:drinker:
  • Try something like Pilates or Callanetics for exercise, something very effective that does not really work upmuch sweat.

Definitely agree with the sweat band idea... Although I wouldn't recommend exercising in public with one. HA! :)

Also, I see that your very close to your goal. Maybe this is a great opportunity to up your strength training and tone some more? Changing up your exercise routine is actually really nice stimulation for weight loss.

No a bad idea  But you also want your vision. Without the ability to see you are still at a lost.

I sweat a LOT. I mean a LOT. It's pretty gross actually. I always wear a bandana. I fold it into a triangle and tie it on like Aunt Jemima. Yeah, I probably look dumb, but I don't care. It works.

A million lb gain in 4 weeks? How much did you plan on eating after having the surgery?

Seriously...if you keep your nutrition in check, a few weeks of lower intensity activity won't set you back. It's not that big a deal. And yes to sweatband if you just GOTTA sweat.

This is the correct answer. Don't risk your eyesight for anything. If it's cool out consider going a few nice long walks while you're healing, or mall walking (it's not just for seniors), but don't ignore your doctors orders.

I didn't work out for 3 weeks due to a knee problem. All I did was keep an eye on what I was eating and I actually still lost weight! Granted, not as much as I would had I been working out, but it still keep the scale moving.

You don't have to work out to lose weight, but if you feel like you need to keep moving, go for a nice, moderately paced walk. I also agree with the post about toning yourself, since that's not too sweat inducing if you're not totally kicking your butt!

My doctor told me "no heaving lifting" for a week, to prevent pressure in the eyes (burst blood vessels). He told me to cry often, to help moisturizer my eyes. Sweating? As long as you don't rub your eyes, you're fine.

He also told me I would eventually live without eye drops but it's been 8 years.... I still need visine everyday.

DO NOT wear swim goggle!!! They suction your eyes when you take them off and might disturb the flaps!!

If you can trust yourself, just wear a headband and sunglasses to decrease sweat in your eyes and remind you not to rub them.

I had Lasik a couple years ago. I took a week off from running and then just ran with an old school terry headband and it worked just fine. Love my 20/15 vision. :)

Sounds crazy but how about putting deodorant around you hair line. I use it under my bra line so I don't sweat there. It works. You never know. Just go for a solid invisible.

Thanks guys! I was thinking about it, and I want to work out more to battle lethargy than to battle weight gain. These days, feeling like a lump is even worse than looking like one  I'll probably give it a week and then search for some nice Richard Simmons gear. (I wish yoga or pilates or any other strength training were a good alternative, but they also make me sweat a ton!)
