Heart Rate Monitors - calculate calories

After watching the message boards here and discussions about how helpful people found HRMs, I purchased one thinking that would help me track my calories for walking and general lawn work, etc. But I can't figure out how you find out calories burned - this just appears to track heart rate. It's a New Balance HRM, $60 at Target. Did I not purchase the "right" kind?

Did it come with a manual? Does it have any buttons on it that seem to serve a "start" function?
For walking and lawn work, you might be better off with a Fitbit or just consulting the activity databases. The HRMs are usually used for high heart rate cardio workouts and that sort of thing. Though they're pretty flexible. And your walks/work might be high HR, it's hard to say.0
