I take a Zumba class once a week at the gym and it really gets my heart pumping and with all the hopping/jumping we did in Zumba fitness I was out of breath. Its really fun and I heard it burns a ton of calories, I just recently started trying to lose weight almost a month ago, but I do alot of other different exercises and not ZUMBA alone, so I cant really account for what it alone will do. But any kind of activity that gets your heart going and gets you moving is good for you.0

Hey my names Mattie and I'm a licensed Zumba instructor. On average you can burn 700-1000 calories per session. It all depends on your body type and metabolism. I would start with one class a week and work your way up. I take 5 classes a week and one of those classes I teach. Just remember that for weight loss 80% is exercise and 20% is diet. Your diet is important so that also affects your weight loss. Bring a water bottle if you go to a class. you can add me and write me if u have more questions.0

anything that creates aerobic motion -- especially a high energy workout that makes you sweat will help you lose weight... Just because it is fun does not mean it cannot work... Only caveat is that you get out of it what you put into it. If you put a lot of energy into it... It will work far better than if you just go through the motions.0

Oh LOVE the Wii Zumba! I have so much fun. You don't start seeing real results until you do the longer sets (the 45 minute ones), but the short ones get the temperature up and at least get you moving. Not to mention it's fun to see how high a score you can get for matching the movements of the Zumba instructor. I already knew basic Latin rhythm, but if you've never done it, the Wii is a way to try it without feeling embarrassed for messing up or just feeling like people are watching you. You do what you want, and when you feel better, you do better and you end up killing a few more calories. It's just plain fun. I look forward to it if I miss my gym class.0 -
I'm a zumba fan !!! I think it's easier to take a class than at home with a DVD, I also think it's very entertaining to sweat and jump with very loud music
Totally recommend it, but in alternance with other kind of exercises as somebody said.
Good luck !0 -
It sure does! I have it on the wii also, and I've just started using it (after having it at home for about 12 months).
My sister-in-law lost 10kgs doing zumba classes, in just a couple of months, she was doing 4 1hr sessions a week (she worked up to that) but she loved it so much, she went and became a zumba instructor!
She tells me the wii game is very very close to being at a class, except it's in the comfort of your own home. Keep it up, you'll see good changes!0 -
Try Zumba at least three times, there is an instructor for everyone!! Every instructor has a different style so just find who matches your style.0

It's actually the opposite. 80% DIET & 20% Exercise. What you feed your body is most critical in this jounrney. Zumba is a great place to start. But once you're ready to start toning and buidling more strength and endurance you'll need to incorporate some weight training.
Good luck!!0 -
I cannot recommend Zumba enough! I was a bit nervous before going to my first class, I had the usual worries of people watching me exercising, people seeing me in work-out gear, not being able to keep up... but I honestly needn't have worried, there's such a range of ages and sizes at my class and everyone's in the same boat.
I've worked my way up to 4 hours of Zumba classes a week now and see 2 different instructors who change their routines up regularly, so you never get bored or complacent because there's always something new. The instructors I go to are always happy to answer any questions or give advice too.
As another poster said, you get out of it what you put in. The more energy you give, the better it is for you and certainly the better you feel - I'm loving the way I'm much less tired and out of breath at the end of a class now than I was when I first started. I can feel myself getting fitter, and then that helps with other exercises I do - I can go for longer, and go harder.
I've never done it on the Wii but if you enjoy doing it at home, maybe try a class!0 -
yes it does i lost over 10lbs with the zumba wii i love it. then i got pregnant and well im not losing weight lol but i still love to zumba0

This isn't true - you can lose weight, technically, only changing your diet and not exercising. But you cannot lose weight just by exercising.0 -
There is a zumba class starting up really close to my place, and I was debating taking it but unsure.
So happy I came across this because now I will for sure! First class Monday.0
