Calorie calculations?

How are calorie burned calculations generated on this site? The calculations seem to be too static--everyone burns calories at different rates. I may burn less than someone else in a 45 minute workout. Help I need some light shed on this--it is bugging me. I don't want to take in more than I burn off.

They are calculated with some equation based on your weight, age, and type of exercise I believe.
The numbers on this website tend to be higher than they should be which is one reason why people only eat back say 2/3s of their exercise calories.
When I input my exercise calories I usually input 10 minutes less in time than I've actually done to get a bit more accurate result. Or I will input the correct time but put in a lower intensity option.0 -

Thank you so much, that will help me mentally! I shouldn't stress, but I do because I'm doing so much more than I ever have and still the scale is not moving in my favor. Alas!0 -
I usually strap on my heart rate monitor and just go by what that says I burned rather than the calculations on here. I feel more comfortable that the information is accurate.0

Thank you, I'll keep this in mind too! If you don't mind my asking, what type of heart rate monitor do you have. I have a Mio one that goes on my wrist--sadly, I don't think it is very accurate. I know the ones with the chest strap are probably more accurate, but I wanted something that I could where all the time with a pedometer. How do you like yours?0
