Calcium and weight loss

Options
I've heard that people with a high calcium intake tend to lose weight faster than those without. It's something to do with the calcium binding with fat molecules causing people to excrete fat in higher amounts. I've researched it online and it seems this isn't a myth and has some solid research behind it so it's not a question of does it work as all evidence suggests it does.

I realise in itself it's not going to cuase dramatic weight loss however it can give an extra nudge in the right direction.

However most of the research has been carried out on people getting their calcium through dairy. I'd like to include calcium into my weight loss program but I suffer from IBS and dairy is a major cause of problems for me.

So will a calcium supplement work in the same manner? Logically I can see no reason why not unless dairy contains some additional chemical that works with the calcium which the supplements lack (although none of the research mentions anything like that).
