So on here, my calorie intake goal is 1300. I was talking with my brother in law who talks to all these nutritionist at the gym he goes to and he said that by eating less than 1700 is going to put my body in starvation mode. I workout a pretty good bit during my days, which is taking my calories into the negatives.
Is this bad or something? Like... I'm just confused. Help?

Ahhh...Starvation Mode!! You'll get a lot of, erm, different answers on this I'm sure. Mine would be (bearing in mind I'm no nutritionist or anything) is it depends on how much exercise you're doing and what your general lifestyle activity is. If you're eating 1300 cals per day AND burning off 700 then you're not eating enough, you'll only be netting 600. If you're eating 2000 and burning off 700 thus netting 1300 then that's much better.
The general 'rule' is no less than 1200 for a woman - BUT - that can't be a 'true' rule as quite clearly 1200 cals per day for a lady of 6", weighing 300lbs is going to be a LOT different to a lady of 5", weighing 100lbs.0 -
There are a lot of good 'starvation mode' posts on these forums. Most people misinterpret what that means, so if I was you, I'd do a search and some reading, and then make an informed decision for yourself.0

Eat six meals a day this will perevent you from going into starvation mode.0

Starvation mode...exists, but not normally at your intake level, I would geuss. You ARE eating back your exercise calories, yes? Just nod...say yes. Then do it. Problem solved.0

1300 NET calories means total calories eaten MINUS total calories burned. So if you burn 600 calories exercising you ought to eat at least 1900 calories.0

So 1300 is NOT that bad...but what I would advise you do...and what I did yesterday...was figure out what your BMR (basal metabolic rate) is for your body. This is what you need if your body was at rest all day. Now there are also calculations that will tell you what your BMR is for the amount of activity you do. So I am very active, and would times my BMR by the number. After that, depending on how much weight you would like to lose, you can subtract about 500-1000 calories. 3500 calories = 1 lb. 3500 calories over 7 day week is a 500 deficit per day for a 1 lb weight loss per week. I just upped my calorie intake from 1200 (plus exercise calories) to 1450 (which is where I should be give or take a bit more calories for the amount of exercise I did that day).
Here are two good websites to figure this out (and you will need a calculator for the latter website)

Hope this helps0
