Hello,

How do I find out exactly how many calories I need to be eating for my age, weight, height, etc in order to lose weight? I know 1200-1400 calories is not really enough for me since I exercise daily. As of today I need to lose 5 pounds to reach my goal and then I would like to eat enough to maintain that weight. Thanks!!!!!

    Here's a good website I used to use.

    www.freedieting.com/tools/calorie_calculator.htm

If you go to the "Tools" tab on this website and calculate your BMR, that will tell you how many calories you need daily to maintain based on your weight, height, activity level, etc. Take that number and subtract 500cal/day if you want to lose one pound per week and so on.

    Hope that helps!

Okay, I went to the website suggested and it says I can eat up 1500 calories a day to lose weight, to maintain is close to 2000. And according to this site my BMR is 1263 and subtract 500 from that if I want to lose weight? No way, that would be under 1000 calories....So I will just continue following this site's suggestion of a little over 1400 calories a day...it seems to be correct. So far it is working. It is that sometimes I feel so hungry it is not even funny...

    HAVE A GREAT DAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

One of the variables may have been messed up?? Sorry. Anyway, a general rule regardless of size, age, etc is that anything less than 1,200 calories per day is considered calorie deprivation. For normal basic function, most people need atleast 1,200.

    Good luck!

BMR isn't what you want. BMR stands for Base Metabolic Rate, it is the amount of calories your body burns if you did absolutely nothing all day (I mean nothing, no walking, no smiling, no getting out of bed at all, basically if you were in a coma all day) you never, ever, ever want to be below or even at that rate normally, the body always needs more calories then BMR if you are at all active throughout the day.

You want to go to the My Home tab, click on goals, and click change goals. Then walk through the Guided wizard on there. It will give you the results you need.
  • Keep vegies in your meals and you will see your hunger come down. Also keep snacks in your day ex.cut up apples or cut up red peppers and so on. Try to keep warm meals instead of cold ex. a warm salad of cook vegies with some shredded cheese instead of dressing, but if you like dressing try Paul Newmans light honey mustard. Take time to have tea or coffee with a snack, ex. 100 calories cookies packs. Good-Luck and God Bless :flowerforyou:
