Two workouts per day?

Hi all - I just started weight training about a month ago and have gotten much stronger, now I need to shed some fat for an upcoming role. Any tips on hitting the gym twice a day? I do weight training in the morning and started adding an hour of cardio in the late afternoon, but I would like to maximize my efforts if possible.

I do this now that I'm unemployed. Cardio in the morning and weights at night0

i use my lunch break at work to do my cardio -midday.. and a workout video at home after work.. occassionally or when I have a serious goal- like a trip coming up : )0

I do this. I do Turbofire in the morning and either weights or Run a 5k at night.0

If you're working out twice a day every day make sure you're mixing up your workouts to reduce the likelihood of injuring yourself and /or becoming over-trained (fatigue is cumulative) (eg run one day, row the next and cycle the day after that) If you're working out that frequently it's imperative that you get enough sleep also make sure you're getting enough protein (there was an interesting post just recently that discussed protein intake's effect on fat loss vs losing lean muscle mass)0

Just make sure your getting enough recovery time. When I do two-a-days I always fit a nap in between and several meals before my second workout.0

You can learn to tolerate 2 workouts/day, but you still have to include recovery time --in this case, it's more "active" recovery than complete rest. You also should probably be doing complementary activities as well.
Ramping up to a high(er) volume of training means that overtraining syndrome is always lurking in the corner. It can be managed, but chances are you will drift into that state at times. Just be aware of the signs and symptoms and be prepared to take full breaks and only modifications when necessary. Just be smart and honest with yourself.0 -
