What is a good talapia recipe? I always put some bbq rub on ours and grill them and im starting to get very burnt out on that... Any ideas?

  • I looooove tilapia! My favorite way to make it is to bake it in the oven, put water in the bottom of the dish, slice up some fresh lemons and place them on top and sprinkle some garlic seasoning on top. Limes also work well. Yummy!!

Broil it, so fast and easy, and goood! I season my tilapia with whatever I want, usually some sort of Mrs. Dash and some Cayenne pepper, broil it for 4-5 minutes, turn it, broil another 4-5 minutes and it's done! You can squeeze some lemon juice on top and it's so good. Or sometimes I even cut it up and put it in my salad for lunch :)

Tilapia is my favorite fish and have gotten more comments on it.

    Tilapia fillets
    Olive Oil
    Sea salt
Chef Paul Magic Seasoning Blends (Seafood Magic)
    Mrs. Dash salt-free original blend
    Old Bay Seasoning
    Aluminium foil
    Pam vegetable spray
    Lemon
    I Can't believe it's not butter spray

Take aluminum foil and spray with Pam Vegetable Spray
    Put fillet on foil
    Drizzle olive oil over fillet
Sprinkle: Salt, Mrs. Dash, Seafood Magic and Old Bay Seasoning on fillet)
    Flip fillet over on foil
    Repeat seasonings (NOT OIL)
    5 sprays of I Can'[t believe it;s not butter)
Place 1 thin slice of lemon

Tent aluminum foil to form a peak at the top and close sides
Place foil on low heat on a grill for about 5 minutes
Open top of foil and take fork to see if Tilapia flakes. I
If it flakes, it is done.

    Serve and delicious.
I serve with Quinoa and steamed or grilled veggies

    Enjoy!
Let me know if you try it.

PS: I make 3 pounds for 5-6 people and there are never any left overs.

    Cajun Seasoning (optional)
    Garlic Powder (optional)

I make Tilapia a lot, very simple: Place the filets in an oven safe dish. Hit them with some lemon juice first. A pinch of sea salt, a little fresh cracked black pepper and a dash of Chipotle powder. Throw a couple ice cubes in the dish, seal the dish tightly with aluminum foil and place into a 400 degree oven for 15-20 minutes.

Tilapia is a very mild fish and does not like to be overpowered. I like spicy, hence the Chipotle powder. I will occasionally sprinkle with a little dill.

I make fish tacos with it. Dress the tacos how you feel. I use cabbage and the dressing from the jicama recipe below. I haven't entered this into myfitnesspal yet but for Weight Watchers the points weren't horrible.

    Jicama Salad

1/3 c Jicama julienne to ½ inch long
1/3 c Red Bell Pepper, diced
¼ c Red onion, finely chopped
¼ c Green Bell Pepper, diced
    1/3 c celery, chopped
1/3 c frozen or fresh corn
    ½ c black beans
¼ c sweet chipotle dressing (see below)
    ¼ tsp salt

    Combine all and refrigerate

    Sweet Chipotle Dressing

    1 T yellow onion
    1 T garlic
    2 T Dijon mustard
    ¼ tsp cumin
    ½ c fresh diced tomatoes
    2 T fresh cilantro
    2/3 c rice wine vinegar
    ¼ tsp pepper
    2 T honey
1-2 canned chipotle peppers in adobo sauce with 1 tsp sauce (to desired heat)
    ½ c olive oil

Combine all ingredients except oil in blender or food processor. Blend until smooth. Slowly add oil while blending to emulsify. Dressing keeps covered in refrigerator for 3-5 days.

    Fish taco marinade
    1 yellow onion chopped
Most of a full head of cilantro chopped
6 big cloves of garlic chopped
    Tsp dried oregano
    ½ an orange
    2T lime juice
Rinse talapia coat with olive oil salt & pepper pressed into fish. Then pour the marinade over the top. Marinade couple of hours.

Pan-Fried Tilapis with white wine and capers

    1/4 cup white wine, dry
1/4 cups fresh tomatoes, seeded and chopped
    2 tbsp fresh lemon juice
    2 tbsp capers, drained
    1 clove garlic
    1/2 tsp dried basil
1 1/2 pounds uncooked tilapis fillets, four 6 oz. pieces
    1/2 tsp table salt
    1/4 tsp black pepper
    1/4 cup all purpose flour
    1 spray cooking spray
    1 tbsp olive oil
    2 tbsp light butter
    2 tbsp parsley, chopped
1 medium lemon, cut into wedges (optional)

Combine first 6 ingredients, stirring well with a whisk; set aside

Sprinkle fillets with salt and pepper. Dredge fillets lightly in flour, and coat both sides of fillets with cooking spray.

Heat oil in a large nonstick skillet over medium-high heat. Add fillets; cook 3 minutes. Reduce heat to medium; turn fillets, and cook 3 minutes or until fish flakes easily when tested with a fork. Remove from pan.

Add wine mixture to pan; cook 30 seconds, stirring constantly. Remove from heat; stir in butter until melted. Spoon wine mixture over filets; sprinkle with parsley. Serve with lemon wedges, if desired. Makes 4 servings.
