Does weight loss effect hair growth? I've been trying to grow my hair out for a little over a year now and I feel like my diet and exercise is making my hair just fall out. Any tips?

I was living abroad last year and traveling all the time, I was pretty stressed constantly and lost hair by the handfuls. Now that I am back in CA my hair literally stopped falling out overnight. I don't know if it was stress or psychological.

Are you getting enough protein? I've actually noticed my hair and my nails are growing faster and are stronger now that I eat around 100g or more of protein a day.

What's your hair regime? Are you natural or relaxed?

don't know what your daily protein intake is but I would make sure it stays above 60, (personally my hair does best at 80 because I'm always adding extra stress on it from chlorine in the pool) if increasing protein doesn't work check with your doctor as it could be hormonal.

Something I heard...keep in mind, heard... is if you are not getting enough fat in your diet it can cause hair loss. Loss but not "stunted" growth so it may not even be close to the same thing. Lol Just my two cents. Moving along........ :)

Not enough protein is a major culprit in diet related hair loss. Try increasing your protein intake to at least 60gm a day. You might also try taking Biotin. I have been taking it and trying to make sure my protein intake is good. So far my hair loss is at a minimum. The biotin will encourage new growth.

Have your hair follicle analyzed ($50-$100). The labs will tell you what your diet deficit is in terms of nutrition.
    It's better than just hypothesizing.

My nails and hair are actually growing faster now that I eat healthier. I would be concerned if my hair is falling out. As the others have said it sounds like you are lacking in some vitamin/nutrient.

I don't eat red meat or pork and i eat chicken and turkey in moderation. I'm kinda lacking in protein but I've been eating hummus and other types of beans lately. I have been stressed, I admit. I just started yoga so hopefully that will help my stress level. I used too always highlight my hair in highschool but I haven't done it in four year. I just leave my hair natural and I deep condition my hair to help put protein back into my hair. I used to take GNC hair, skin, and nail pills but that only helped me so much.
