Zombies Run! First Mission Review (for runners)

Okay, so I ran today with the app Zombies Run! on my Droid Bionic. It just came out for android, been on iPhone for a few months now. It's $7.99, but this just seemed to good to pass up.
It starts out with about a 3 minute intro...you can use this time to stretch/warm-up/slow jog...whatever. Then you get into the story and start running.
Your helicopter crashes on route to the city of Able, and you have some zombies around you.....you have to use your imagination here people....if you can run trails....at dusk....it makes it AWESOME!
You basically get story....one song from your playlist....more story....one song....etc. Average time takes about 30-40 minutes to complete a mission....there are THIRTY of them!
An option they have if you have GPS is to turn on "Zombie Chases" this basically means that at some point, you will have some zombies picking up speed and chasing you....which means you are running intervals....this app makes intervals FUN!!
You get more story as you go along about someone who was a "runner" like yourself, going after some documentation from the CDC at a nearby hospital. She died. Now you have to earn your keep and go get some stuff from the hospital...if you come across the CDC stuff grab it! It's worth your life. (why I don't know yet).
As you are leaving the hospital you are informed that with the exception of one more zombie which you should be able to easily out run......
*****SPOILER ALERT*****
or not....turns out that last zombie was the previous runner.....so she's a hell of a lot faster than the other zombie hoards. I picked up my pace....damn near sprinting.....watching my phone count down to out running her....then what I feared would happen did happen....the numbers starting rising signifying that she was getting closer.....and then it happened...I dropped supplies to distract her...I couldn't out run her....and I puked for the first time while running.....ever....that was an experience.
All in all....GREAT game!! It pushed me hard and made me hit under 10 minutes a mile on TRAILS for the first time.
Can't wait to get to mission two!

Nice review!
I got the app when I first started running about 2 months ago. I love it but only use it every 3rd run or so.
The first mission you describe with the zombie chase, I was a new runner going around the neighborhood. The chase starts just as I started up a big (for me) hill. I pushed hard but also got caught. Thanks to you I now know why! Somehow I missed the part about it being a previous runner (could be all my huffing and puffing making it hard to hear).0 -
I want this so bad! However i have a few questions. Maybe you can clear up for me. Do you run your own route or since you are trying to get supplies does it tell you where to turn to get them. I only ask because I have a set route I run just because I know its exactly five miles. If I start running all zig zagged and off my route I wont know how far I have run. It sounds awesome currently I am running about 10 minute miles and I want to get faster, and what better way then having zombies chase you!0

Jessie,
It's great. You run your route, no need to deviate at all. Picking up supplies is just a function of time. The story happens and may say turn but it's just something you imagine you're doing.
The only exception would be when zombies are chasing you ( if you have that option turned on), in which case, you still don't have to change directions just speed up since the program uses GPS to track your pace and distance.0 -
Thanks for the info! I definaltey want to get this it sounds awesome!0

Best advice I can give is RUN TRAILS!!! It completely puts you in the story because there is no one around!!0

A MFP friend suggested this to me. I downloaded it from Google Play for $3.99, and I completed the first mission this morning. I put on my Kangoo Jumps (as I have problems with my knee), grabbed my water bottle, and I was off.
I usually just run to music, but this does make it more fun. You are waiting for the next item you pick up, or the next instruction. Good fun, and it makes you want to complete the run, because you want to finish the mission. Not sure how good my first attempt was, but I finished it in 35:29. Hope to improve.
Thank you, Heather for suggesting it.0 -
this... sounds... awesome!!!!!0

i didn't read your whole intro because i didn't want to spoil anything lol
but can you 'fail' the mission?0 -
I'm midway through season 2- I can't say enough good about it. I love Zombies, Run. Sometimes, I run only to progress in the storyline. It's so awesome.0

Nope, you just don't finish the mission, and you can start back up again later.0 -
I freaking love this app. I started with the 5K app, and worked to the full one. I get so excited after completing a mission (I'm halfway through season 2), and my township looks AWESOME! I love LOVE this app!0

Sounds horrific...
Then again I don't even listen to music much when I'm running, just my pace coaching.0
