Eating well on 100 degree days.

What do you do? I'm okay if there is one or 2 hot days in a row but more and I'm out of ideas. If it was just me, I'd do salads and smoothies and be good but I've got to cook for the family with leftovers for my husband to take to work for lunch. So please share, what are your favorite 100 degree day foods?

BBQ dishes including tortilla pizza cooked on the bbq grill. you would be amazed by what you can cook outside!0

I personally like grilled chicken or low fat hot dogs on super hot days.0

It has to be sandwiches, Quick, easy, and cool...add some jello salad, or anything else that doesn't require the oven/stove or anything that can be microwaved and still taste good.0

i agree with the above post!
it's really hard for me to eat once the heat truly kicks in. i tend to eat everything cold, even rice with veg or spaghetti.
i would say sandwiches are nice, maybe dip (such as hummus or white bean dip) with fresh veggies... but other than that, nothing seems appetizing when it's hot out >.<0 -
I really enjoy sugar free Popsicles. They're 15 calories each an definitely a great cold treat!
Oh, and they're delicious. They taste like they're loaded with sugar!0 -
We had 92 degrees and 90% humidity today..YUKK
I had cottage cheese, greek yogurt, watermelon, a protein shake and oatmeal, LOL
Nothing that involved ANY cooking, just easy, cold foods!!0 -
I just can't eat when its too hot out. Usually fill up on fluids and cold food mostly. It will be 90 here tomorrow and we have no AC....should be fun!0

Grill. It's the only time of year that my husband asks for lettuce salads, usually with grilled chicken or steak. Or make bunch of pasta ahead of time (or quinoa, rice, etc) and do various cold mix-ins throughout the week.0

grilled foods are always nice on a hot day (chicken breast, hamburgers, grilled veggies (for salads or kababs), grilled pizzas, steaks).. another good option.. crock pot some chicken with diced chilies and use for tacos.. you can do the same with boneless pork chops, adobo seasoning and onion... cold soups like creamy avocado or gazpachos.. cold pasta salads packed with veggies, tabbouleh +hummus+ pita+veggies, corn on the cob...0

Today was chicken breasts in the crockpot tomorrow will be crockpot lasagna and the house will smell good when we get home from a swim!0

salads, grilled veggies, grilled chicken, burgers, fish, fresh fruits.....keep it light and simple especially in 100 degree weather....and make an abundance of meat....like chicken....you can use it the next day for chicken salad, or cut it up and put it into a salad.....make wraps from your meats....the veggies are good as leftovers too, cold or room temperature. make quiona and refrigerate it....it's great served cold as well. it's a very flexible grain that you can use in just about anything.

We got the watermelon and popsicles going yesterday, and finger jello is good too. But the family has crazy high expectations for dinner which is all my fault. I'm going to have to start preparing some rice or meats at night to use the next day.0 -
Cheese and cracker.
I like to make cold cumcumber soup. It is really easy. Blend roughly some cucumber (your choice on the peel), garlic, and plain yogurt (your choice of fat levels). You want about a 2 to 1 ratio of yogurt to cucumber for blending. And add fresh herbs: mint, cilantro or parsley are great. Or all 3 while you are blending. About 1/2 cup per cup of yogurt. Add about 2 cloves of garlic per cup of yogurt as well. Or more if you like. Salt, pepper, and lemon juice to taste.
You can experiment. If you add too much lemon, just add a bit of honey to make it less tart. I like it with greek yogurt, but you might need a bit of water if you use a drier cucumber.
Serve chilled, and garnish with chopped cucumber. And/or tomato, avocado too.0 -
The grill or the crock pot helps keep the heat out of the kitchen. Or if you've got a George Foreman Grill or something similar, panini sandwiches are a go-to meal for us on a hot night.0

Paninis! How'd I forget those. I don't have a foreman grill, I just use the waffle iron which reminds be! Omelets! No leftovers for the husband but the kids'll be happy and I can use the stove for the 10 minutes an omelet'd take :-)0

What does outside temperature have to do with what you eat?
Running the stove and oven heat up the house. And some foods just don't taste good when you've been hot all day....Like Chili, chili isn't a summer food, IMO.0
