Not doing so well

I'm holding steady with the weight loss, but I haven't recorded food or done any of the other things I've been doing for weight loss. This weekend I had to take my cat into the emergency vet, expecting we'd adjust his medicine or something like that, but didn't want to wait to take him to the regular vet becuase he just seemed like he wasn't himself. Turns out he was very, very sick, with very bad prognosis, so I had to let him go. So sad. Now I've been "off" the last few days. I do what has to be done each day, but not a lot more. I'm determined to get back with my usual routine for weight loss now, as I slowly start normalizing my life. But I sure do miss my sweet boy.

I'm so sorry for your loss! I know what it's like to lose your beloved animals... never a fun thing.
It will come with time. Give yourself some time to grieve and than try to get back to life. Keeping busy may help you too.0 -
I'm sorry for your loss.0

So sorry about your loss. It's never easy to lose a pet.0

Oh, my goodness. I am so sorry for your loss. I know it is hard so give yourself some slack and then get back on the right track.0

I am terribly sorry for your loss. I know how hard it is to lose a loved one! You do what you have to do to take care of yourself. The rest will come naturally.
Your cat is no longer suffering and running free, swatting at flys to his hearts content. He knows that he had a great life because of you and he will watch over you.0 -
I am so sorry. I lost a cat to cancer after 16 years, and honestly it was so hard (still is sometimes). Give yourself some time to grieve.... so sorry0
-
So sorry to hear of your loss........like the other's said, give yourself some time....time does help heal a loss like that. Best Wishes to you. :flowerforyou:0

Awwww, I'm sorry, that's terrible. {{{hugs}}}0

I am so sorry. Losing an animal is so hard. Don't be too hard on yourself. Give your self a break and let yourself have a few days, then get back on track. You are doing great!0

So sorry to hear about your cat. Your cat was lucky to have an owner that's missing him so much. Emotions play a big part in your ability to lose weight so now probably isn't the time to restrict your food too much but getting out for lots of walks will help to maintain your weight and clear your head until your ready to get back on track. Hope u feel better soon0

People who are not animal lovers just don't understand your pain.
I do. It's like losing a part of yourself.
Sorry for your loss. It's hard to let go, but life does eventually go on even though it's hard to think about that now.
Don't let your sorrow set you back. You must buck up and get back to your health goals.
You can do this; people here understand. I have been there.

First of all, I'm so sorry for your loss.
You will have good days and bad days - you're grieving. Whether it's a person or a pet, grief is grief. Make sure you're eating enough, getting rest, and try to get in a little bit of exercise. Give yourself some time to acclimatize to the way things have changed, and you'll get back into your routine. Take things one day at a time, and know that things WILL get better :-)0 -
I feel for you, my cat just passed yesterday and he was with us for almost 17 years. I'm still crying when I think of him and at one time I would've dove straight into a bag of chips and container of cottage cheese but I am holding strong, so can you. Grieve, grieve a lot and then pick yourself up. You will be fine...0

I so very sorry for your loss. I lost my 17 year old cat last year and still expect to see him in the window waiting for me to come home.
You did the right thing in letting him go so he didn't have to suffer. Try to remember him with happiness. I hope you find your peace and get back on track for yourself.:flowerforyou:0 -
I am so sorry to hear this. It is so hard having to "let go" of a pet. We had to put down our kitten last year and it hurt so much. Take time to grieve over you loss, then you will be able to more fully get back into the game. Hugs sent to you.0

So very sorry!!!! You need to greive, just try to do the best you can. Again, so sorry! I know it is hard! Sending you big hugs!!!0

*hugs*
I've been through it too. Sudden loss is very traumatic Let yourself grieve first and then get back to all the other stuff.0 -
Im so sorry. Things like this can distract you - and that is OK! You need time to deal with it before you get your head back in the game. When you are ready jump back in. Sorry for your loss.0

That's rough. Losing a well-loved pet is really hard.
Grief is understandable, and it does make it hard to put much effort into anything.
Its okay to give yourself a few days. But - your cat loved you, and would want you to do what is best for you. That means getting back to your life and the things that keep you healthy. I know that sounds trite, but it really is true.
I've lost loved ones before, two-legged and four. It hurts. And people say a lot of things you don't want to hear, simply because they don't really know what to say ("they're at peace now", "you'll see them again some day"... "they would want you to be happy"). I cringe to be the one saying it now, but it really is true.
So give yourself time to grieve, and then climb back on the wagon. Your friend would want you to take care of yourself.0 -
I'm sorry. I have lost two dogs recently and I know for myself it takes a long time to "get over" the loss of a pet. There's a tendency to think its just an animal and you should bounce back quickly but that isn't true. Don't rush yourself, give yourself the time you need. It is a big adjustment to daily life and even after two years I am still not used to not having my dogs around.0

With every part of living you have to accept the fact we will have to let them go. Some earlier than other.
Bobby_Clerici said it the best: You need to concentrate on your self. You know you gave this animal best care you could possibly do. And while your loss will always be in your heart, you have to get back on track. Good luck0 -
So sorry for you. Its never never easy to let go of a pet....they are the one entity that gives us undconditional love above all else.0

Warm thoughts are coming your way. I just finished reading your profile and looking at your weight loss so far, and the only words that come to mind are "wow". You are obviously an amazing person who carries quite a load on your shoulders. I'm guessing you have found (positive) ways to deal with your stress and hardship or would not have achieved what you have already. keep going, keep doing what works, and know that there is at least one more person out there who is wishing you the best and will say a prayer for you today.0

I lost my boy when he was 12.5. About 10 months later, we lost our 2nd kitty. It was an awful year and I was the same as you - I could barely do the minimum to get through the day. Sometimes the distraction of logging food helped, sometime it was way too much work. You just gotta go with what you feel... let your feelings be what they are instead of surpressing them.
Here's a video I made about my Best Boy when he died: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bSzC1f7KyGk0 -
You did the right thing by coming and letting everyone know. Now is the time to rely on your support system to help get you through this sad time. Let the people around you know how they can help you. Do you want them to encourage you to stick with it, invite you out to exercise, or just give you space. Maybe you want someone to come to you in a week and say ok time to get back on track. Use your support and keep working. Sorry for your lose.0

Really sorry about your loss!0

Thanks everyone for all the kind comments, encouragement, and suggestions. I appreciate it so much. I keep expecting my boy to walk into the room, or I find something of his that reminds me of him and makes me smile and feel sad at the same time. Thanks for understanding and taking the time to post. And for everyone who mentioned also losing a pet recently, I'm sorry for your loss, too.0

I am so sorry for you loss. My husband is a veterinarian and we deal with this all the time. It is never easy to say good-bye. We have lost 8 pets (7 dogs and 1 cat) in the last 3 years. You have to realize that as hard as it was to say good-bye, your cat isn't in pain anymore. Choosing to help a pet pass is one of the most humane things that you can do for your pet. There is a wonderful poem called "The Rainbow Bridge". If you haven't read it, do so. It will take time to heal. Each day will be a little bit better. Soon you will be able to remember the good times and laugh without crying. Take it one day at a time. The pain doesn't ever go away, but it does get better.
Here is a link for the Rainbow Bridge Poem. It'll make you cry but it will also make you feel better, too.

Thanks, Lullaby. When I was at the veterinary hospital one of the technicians actually shed a couple tears, too. I told her I was sorry--that I knew it must be hard on those who work there, too. It also made me feel better to know that she cared that much. Yes, I wouldn't have made any other choice----I really needed to let him go and avoid more suffering. I just miss him. I can't imagine losing 8 in three years, and I thank you for your insightful words.0
