Let's try this

Hello all!

My friend has been using this site and she has now lost 50 pounds. I've been doing Weight Watchers for a year and had lost about 30 pounds only to gain it all back. This can't hurt right?

    Hello all!

Hi Laurie, and welcome to THE best site on the web! :flowerforyou:
Between the easy to use food counter (which by the way is SUCH an eye opener!) and all the wonderfully supportive members, you WILL be able to lose the weight that you want to, AND, it'll "almost" be easy doing it!
I recommend logging ALL your foods BEFORE you have them, rather than later, as it tends to lead to better food choices. (not to mention you'll know if you've got enough numbers left to have a night time snack, like I ALWAYS try to do!) Some people also like to weigh and measure some things, such as meats, rather than just estimating and possibly being WAY off! :noway:
Don't go making the mistake that if you have LOTS of numbers left at the end of the day that you'll lose even faster, because that DOESN'T happen. Feel free to read any info about the site in the "help" section at the top of the home page. And also, under "all topics", then "general", and check out the first few threads. They'll really help you understand how MFP works.
Before coming here, I had tried just about EVERYTHING out there, including hypnosis, TWICE, and nothing really worked until MFP!
Also, drink LOTS of water, it REALLY DOES help! :drinker:
As for exercise, it doesn't always have to be awful. For my exercise, I walk almost every day, (weather permitting!) I also dance to a fast oldies CD that my husband made up of all my favorite old songs. (Like "Love Shack", Wild, Wild West", "Mony, Mony", "Footloose", and "Gloria")
It's free, (unlike a gym!) fun, and I can even watch tv at the same time, so I never get bored!
I also recently aquired the Wii Fit, and jog to that, which is a lot of fun, and easy too!
So, to make a LONG story short, make good food choices, eat in moderation, get some exercise, and you WILL lose the weight that you want to! :smile

Definitely think MFP is great. I have found that if I plan my food out for the day, I stick to it. It is almost addicting! You will start to make better choices and when you step on the scale you will be amazed. I am not a calorie counter, and WW is easy for many people, but I am not a point counter either. I am willing to spend as much time as it takes in the gym, but I would mess it all up by not making good choices, by trying to cook something quick for the kids. I found MFP and it is really working. If you stuck with WW and lost 30 pounds that is AWESOME. :flowerforyou: MFP will really help. Because if I can do it anyone can. Welcome and Good Luck.

Thanks ladies. My friend also said I'd find wonderful and supportive people on here.

I track my food first thing in the morning. A lot of my recipes come from WW so they should be ok. I recently have discovered the Lipton Tea to Go packets so now I drink at least 3 16.9oz bottles a day...that counts for my water, right?

As far as excercise, I go to Curves 3 times a week for 30 mins. Sometimes I can get there more. So when I put that in under my excercise it says I burn something like 315 calories. I thought that was pretty good.

Nice to meet you ladies and thanks for the warm welcome...Keep the advice coming.

Oh wait here's a question...is there a place on here that I can put all the ingredients in to build a recipe and then divide it by the servings to just log one serving?

    Thanks again

Here's a site I've heard is good. I'm not much of a "Julia Child" so I try to get out of cooking recipes most of the time!
    http://caloriecount.about.com/cc/recipe_analysis.php

Another site that is good for figuring out how many calories you're burning for different things is:
    http://www.caloriesperhour.com/index_burn.php
Course, an HRM is the best thing to use for calories burned, but, if you don't have one, you could try that site.
