Anyone ever sprain an abdominal muscle?

Just wondering if that might be what I've got going on. Did my strength training on Tuesday (deadlifts, lat pulldowns, squats, dumbbell rows, side planks, cable crunches). On Weds morning I woke up with what feels like a bruise in my lower left abs, about 2 inches out from my belly button.
Ran 3 miles yesterday, it felt better for a while (I was going to stop my run if it made it worse), then came back again last night while sitting on the couch and got a LOT worse at bedtime when I tried to lay on that side - not happening! - and then laid on my back. My husband said something funny and when I laughed I curled up -felt like I had been punched in that spot.
Has anyone ever torn/sprained an ab muscle? Is what I described sound like what it feels like? Today it just feels bruised in that area - although it isn't.
TIA for any feedback!

I am not expert on exercises but I have been feeling cramps in my ab muscles these days whenever I am trying sit ups. If I do more than 2 sets of 15 each my whole abdomen muscle feels like pulled inside. It is really weird feeling, first time it happened I could not stand up because abdomen muscles just under the chest and near the belly button pull towards inside together. Then I had to stretch the muscles and tried to stand up. Now I know if I start to feel the same tension I don't do more repetitions. It never happened before but may be now due to overweight I feel that.0

I have been doing these exercises for about a half a year now, it isn't a new routine.....0

Hold your fingers over it firmly and cough. Does anything rise up like a bump?0

What she said. :-) I was going to suggest that it could be a hernia. Umbilical hernias happen near the belly button, but are rare in adults.0 -
No bulge, or bump when coughing, although firmly holding there while coughing meant the cough didn't hurt it. Lol.0
