bored figured I would take a trip down memory lane with computers. remember when:

all computers were slow and you had to wait minutes to connect to the internet?

you would Im someone and then get kicked off the server and have to reboot?

you would get the "blue screen of death"?

your email ended with either "@AOL.com" or @cs.com.. mine was cs?

When 3 1/2" floppies came out people mistook them for "hard disks".

When your mom would pick up the phone and interrupt your modem session.

All the BBS's were busy so you dialed into that one you don't like so much.

You finally got a sweet EGA monitor that could do 640×350 and show 16 colors.

You finally got your IRQ settings right.

Oh wait, now the sound card isn't working.

when you could tell how fast your internet connection was going to be based on the modem tones?

How about having to rearrange your autoexec.bat and system.ini files to get enough extended memory for a CD-rom to actually work?

starting a program, then remembering you forgot to type mouse first!

I can remember being a little, little kid, and having a commodore 64 or a vic 20. Something like that.... and my parents would get in PC magazines with the code to type in, and then there would be programs for us to use. I remember making crazy pixelated drawings and stuff like that. I don't remember lemmings... but I'm talking early 80s. I think the best we ever got was asteroidish or centipedish.

When floppies came in larger sizes. The more common 5 1/4" and the less common 8 1/2" floppy.

When every one used Netscape instead of Internet Explorer

    Gaming at 14.4K, 28.8K 33.6(Smoking fast)

    <=== remembers ye olden thymes

    I remember:

...saving data onto an exotic peripheral device known as a 'tape recorder'.

...when you had to shell to DOS to zip and unzip files (before there was a WinZip program), and also to plot, for some drawing/modelling programs.

I remember when 2mb DEC memory upgrade was the size of a two draw filing cabinet; I remember 80086 Dragon PC had 16kb of memory, and two colour one black and one green. I remember when the only way to use the internet was to use Unix. And 16 colours was state of art.
I also remember upgrading my zx80 to a zx81 by hand with a soldering iron from 1k to 8k
I also remember when I typed 600 lines of code from a computer magazine.

How much of a geek am I? . There was also 640x480, and my favorite, 320x200. Either with 16 or 256 colors. Bios modes.
