I was about a year out and I regained about 20-30lbs

I went from 423lbs to 320, lost very very slowly after that to around 280-290.....regained back up to 310-320lbs......then just realized I wasn't working hard enough.

take a look at my journal its in my signature (entry: never ending journey)
  • wow.....I am so touched that you replied......it is such a journey that people think we took the easy way out and if we slip up they call us failure......or they always say.....oh you look fine.....

    how are you doing today?

my regain came on after about 3 yrs post op and after plastic surgery......

    what a journey

in my personal opinion I think the surgery just kinda helps you in the very beginning....forcing you to eat healthier foods and smaller portions...but that can quickly change. For me it changed very fast. I was eating like normal within 6 months of the surgery...

I kinda feel bad for people who have the surgery and eat like birds, or just eat crap.....whats the points in having the surgery if you cant live a healthy life after?
  • I still eat less than before surgery and some things I have really not eaten much of since.....ice cream for one....very little now...it just looks gross. Dont get me wrong sometimes I will crave it eat it and then regret it.....

My habits kind of went crazy when alot of stressors came into my life. I have never even had follow up care since my surgery....I moved and docs here dont want to see me as they did not operate.

So anyhow.....here I am 5 ft small and 172 pounds.....I would like to be about 135-145. But who knows.....its up to me as to where I will end up......just being healthy is a great place to be tho......I can work out like crazy but have gotten lazy......last year I was doing at least 2 hrs of cardio followed by weight training. I miss that.....I have lost my motivation.........

Hey, you guys...I just wanted to say, it must be so hard to go through the surgery, and then start putting the weight back on. I don't think it's the easy way out, because I know for some it probably feels like their only hope, and who wants to go through major surgery? Not an easy decision.

I wish you both the best, and hope that MFP helps. :flowerforyou:

How much have you lost total? How many calories do you aim for a day?

I was stuck in the 230s-250s forever....aiming for 1,400-1,500 calories a day. I was soon to realize it was way too low with the amount of exercise I was doing. I moved it up to 2,400 cals and the weight was flying off.

Thanks, I was once over 400lbs and now I hope to never get over 200lbs again

I just recently joined here. I was probably tracking calories for a year and a half over at livestrong.com but that site is crap (and people pay with gold memberships which I dont get, where is the money going?)
  • lost 100 but regained 40.

my cals are less than 1000 a day, I am supposed to be at about 1200-1600. But its hard to get there. I hate to eat sometimes, sometimes I am ravished and eat non stop. I have to get my *kitten* together.

I know if I hit the gym hard I may have to increase the cals a bit and the protien.

blah.........I have to get with it.....my mental state is just not doing its part.......
  • For me I thought it was the easy way out, that it was going to be the answer to my life long weight problems.! I was at 312 lbs I did loose abut 100 pounds, 50 of which I also have put back on. I have learned for me at the age of 40 the only thing that works is portion control, a good attitude, and lots of exercise. I have lost 20 pounds in the last 6 weeks, so I am on my weight loss journey once again. I would love to weigh 160-175 I can never remember even weighing this amount. It may seem a lot to some people but when you have been over 200 lbs all your life that amount sounds really good.

with your age, weight, and height....you should be doing the following

Eat about 1,500 cals a day if you exercise light (1-3 times per week)

Eat about 1,800 a week if you exercise moderately (3-5x a week)

eating under 1,000 calories is not going to cut it for you, you may lose weight very slowly, because its killing your metabolism and its running slower and slower each day

It is also ruining the muscles you have. Muscles are what burns the fat. The more muscle you have the easier it is to burn the fat.
  • yep.....I know.....its getting motivated and sticking with it. any stress and bam I am so far off track.

I have all my fitness journals and diet journals and weight lifting books and this and that and my txt books.....I just have lost the will.

my metabolism is shot, I know this for a fact. I have a hard time increasing my cals. I usually supplement with a whey shake. Got goats milk whey shakes now,,,,,,mmmm tatsy...not
