O.k. so I put all my stats into MFP and it came out saying that to lose 1lb per week I should be eating 1280 cals per day, now a lot of posts are saying that this is too low etc. I also put my stats into fit-radio ( I think that is what it was called) and that said to eat 1680ish to lose weight! I am very sedentary, need to lose 20lb, 43yrs old and eat healthy carbs, meat, fish, eggs etc. Please explain how many cals I should be aiming for.

My recommendation is to follow MFP and avoid the confusion and mis information in the forums! If you have a question, use google and only read recognized sites.
Sorry, but sifting though to confusion here isn't for the unknowlegible!
I've followed the MFP program for about 60 days and have lost about 18#. Weigh every. Day and weight loss hasn't been constant and increases occasionally. Things that don't sound " logical" generally aren't. Accept common science and question myth and magic
Btw, I'm 64 and currently about 30# from my college weight...
Good luck0 -
Thanx, All I really want to know is the calorie thing. I am sticking to 1280 but not losing an inch.0

Depending on how much you are exercising it should be about the same. MFP is set up so that you eat more if you exercise -- that's why your calorie goal goes up if you log exercise. Fat to fit and other TDEE methods include exercise already so you just eat that amount of calories each day. Generally they work out about the same if you account for exercise calories on MFP.0

Thank you, I just get frustrated as I don't lose any weight. I really try and eat healthy, no grains, fish, meat, eggs, veg but nothing will shift.0

I love this site so dont get me wrong when I say this but...
MFP has a screwed up way of getting you to eat correctly.
It wants you to work out 3 times a week burning appx 200 cals each time.
This is what I always recommend to my clients.
However, I have my clients delete the preset workouts and calories from MFP and eat the 1400-1600 cals regardless.
See most people on here burn at least 2k cals daily.
If you cut it too low for too many days and dont work out, meaning you wont eat enough, youll bottom out and plateau.
Food for thought!
Heres an experiment!
Go to Fat to Fit radio and get your BF% from the military Body Fat calc.
Enter the info into the BMR tool and enter current weight as goal weight.
Look at the Light Activity number, thats probably what you burn each day BTW.
Unless you are over 60 that number will be way higher than 1200.
You can eat anything below that number and lose weight bhut the closer you eat at or below BMR, the more lean mass you put on the line.
It takes twice as long to put lean mass back on as it does to lose it.0 -
What is your BMI now? If you're in the healthy range, it seems to be harder to lose. How long have you given it at 1280? Are you exercising? Is this exercise level new to you or no?0
