Shin Splint Help?

Okay I took up running a week ago. took last weekend off.
I ran Monday did MUCH better than I did the previous week. I pushed myself further and got really tight calf muscles, didn't stretch next day shin splints. Took Tuesday AND Wednesday off from running, swam Wednesday (yesterday) and decided today my legs were rested up enough.
I ran today, had a small nsv. Ran for about 7 min at a 4.5 mph (guessing) jog and then ran intermittently and walked the rest of my 20 min run (I do 1.75ish miles).
Got home shins were starting to flare up so I have ice on them. I really am starting to like running now, a really big bonus especially when I'm running farther than when I did a week ago.
Any way to quickly heal shin splints. When I ran today they were still sort of sore from my Monday's endeavor so it's not really a *new* injury just flaring up an old one.

It helped me...I get them all the time. Hope works for you! Good luck. Some OTC anti-inflammatories probably wouldn't hurt either.0
