Why is protein set so low?

I've never been able to stay under the protein limit MFP sets and from what I understand, this isn't a bad thing as it's set too low anyway but why???
Also on the MFP app, it shows the % of carbs, fat and protein over the week. I keep just under the carbs and fat but I'm way over on the protein: is it accurate? (the set goals are 55% carbs- 30% fat- 15% protein).....
Help, I'm so confused!!!

You can change it to whatever you want. I recently changed mine to Carbs 40% / Protein 30% / Fat 30%.0

I don't know the reasoning behind the MFP thing but I try to do 40 p, 40 c, 20 f.0

I have mine set at 40 / 30 / 30 and I've been losing weight like crazy.0 -
http://www.livestrong.com/article/343966-how-to-calculate-protein-rda/ Use that to figure how much protein you really need I found that using 40% carbs 30% protein and 30% fat is the most accurate for me.0

How do I change it on MFP?0 -
Never mind I found it! LOL
To customize your nutrition goals, click on the "My Home" tab, then click on "Goals", then "Change Goals". Choose the "Custom" option, and you'll be taken to a page where you can set your goals to whatever values you'd like.0 -
Thanks guys, I had no idea you could do that. I've changed mine to 40-30-30 based on recommendations online so this'll give me something new to aim for and seems very realistic :-)0

I just want to say thanks also. This thread was very helpful! And I guess I just bumped this as well.0
