Kids and movies
I was thinking about taking my 2.5 year old to the movies tomorrow. She has never been and i really want to see the Avengers. She has never watched a movie for more than 15mins at home. I don't know if being in a theater will make the experience of going to the movies better or worse.
Good idea? or bad idea?
Only kidding it would be Madagascar 3 not Avengers

Take me with you!
I want to see Madagascar 3 in the worst way!
I think it will be a good idea, I think being in a theater will make the experience better. There is only one way to find out0 -
I doubt that at 2.5 she will be that interested. My film obsessed older son (used to watch Finding Nemo straight through at 15 months) didn't go to the cinema until he was 3, and my younger son is nearly 5 and still won't sit through a whole film. I did used to take him when he was younger, accompanying his older brother, but he almost always falls asleep, even now.0

I didnt take my daughter till she was 6 and that was a great age... my son is 4 and lucky to sit through a movie at home... he is doing better but will probably wait till he is 5 to attempt it0

Good idea, as long as you take her to a midnight showing.
I think it is fine to take her, as long as you don't mind possibly having to leave and lose the money you spent on the ticket. This is about the age that we first took our daughter. But we went with the attitude that we would have to leave if she couldn't sit and watch.
PS - I loved Madagascar 3.0 -
So when I was 3 my parents took me to see my first movie in the theaters. I don't remember the name of the movie, but it was about 2 bunnies I think. Anyway, we were sitting near the front and you heard "BOOM...BOOM....BOOM...." and then BAM!! A HUGE dinosaur was screaming at audience. Yes, Jurassic Park. I booked it out of the theater screaming at the top my lungs and I was crying to hard I wasn't able to go back in the theater. So, maybe that's not the best idea. Just saying.0

We took my son to his first movie just before he turned 3 and he did great... and funny enough it was Madagascar 2 that we went to see. I say take her but be prepared to leave before the movie is over just in case she decides sitting in a theater for that long isn't what she had planned for her day .
I also want to take my son to see Madgascar 3 (he turned 6 this week) but his little brother is only 16 months and I am pretty sure that is a very bad idea to take one that young to the theater unless they are showing episodes of Mickey Mouse!0 -
i brought my 2 and half year old to see lion king...she lasted 5 mins and would not sit still and was very loud...she wanted to go back into the lobby to play games...it was free to take kids 3 and under though and i guess i could have asked for a raincheck on my ticket but i was so aggravated i just left lol..i am thinking her next movie will be at the drive in's ...Brave is playing0

I'm taking 12 daycare kids today to see Disney's Brave. Hoping they all sit and do well! It's been a few years since I've taken this many kids to the movies.
Last week as a family we went to Madagascar 3 and the kids loved it! We thought it was the best out of all of them.0 -
My oldest was that age for his first movie and did fine. The trick for him was walking in just a couple of minutes before the start of the movie. Just enough time to get him seated and hand him his popcorn. He was in awe of the big screen and did really well. Though we went the middle of the afternoon when 80% of the audience consisted of kids around his age. Every so often you would hear a kid yell, but no one batted an eye.0

I took 2 of my nieces to see Happy Feet 2 on Xmas eve morning... the youngest was 3.5 and it was her first time.
The ads took ages so she was a bit fidgety before the film came on. She made it to the end, but she talked all the way through.
We were the only ones in there though so it didn't matter.
The big "boom!" you get before the Pearl & Dean adverts terrified her0 -
I took my 2.5 year old daughter to see it a couple of weeks ago, and she loved it. She did get a little cranky about half way through, because it was around nap time, but after sitting on my lap for a little bit she got her second wind.0

Madagascar please. Especially for Courtesy for the other movie watchers. Went to see Snow White and The Huntsman last week and there were a couple kids that age in there just jabbering away the whole movie....very annoying and distracting to every one.
Sorry, just saw you were joking about taking her to see the Avengers. I think the cartoon should be find for that age.0 -
thanks for the feedback, i am going to give it a go. I'll try to get her in just before the movie starts. I know she'll sit and eat a ton of popcorn so we'll have that. I am completely prepared that i may need to bail at any point during the movie.
thanks again.0 -
My daughter is 3.5 and we have taken her to the movies several times. Every time, we have regretted it. She loses interest and starts squirming, and wants to get out of her chair, and wants to go to the bathroom 3 times (just to go, not b/c she needs to), and talks, and talks and talks, and then finally gets frustrated and just throws a fit and we have leave without seeing the end of the movie :-( And then there was the time we went to see Tangled:
Her: Look Mom - a horse
Me (whispering): That is an awesome horse, let's be quiet and see what happens
Her: HORSEY, HORSEY, HORSEY
Me: Shhhh...
Her: Can I ride a horse, Mom?
Me (whispering): We'll see... shhhh... let's watch the movie
Her: I would be brave and not be scared and ride the horse
Employee: Um... you'll have to take her out of here, she's disturbing others.
My son, on the other hand, is now 6.5 and has been a movie goer since he was 2. He is enthralled/entranced by the TV, and even more so in a movie theatre. A little creepy to be perfectly honest, but it is something nice to do on a bad weather day.0
