Gained 10 pounds! :-( Feeling Discouraged

Today I am feeling slightly discouraged and upset with myself. I went to my physician today and I have gained 10 pounds. I have been on a weight loss journey since the ending of 2011. I weighed 272 in the beginning of my journey and now with the 10 pound gain I am at 248. I want and need to lose 60 pounds more to get at my weight loss goal. I think the hardest part of a weight loss journey is getting back on track once you fell off. I signed up for a Boot Camp beginning in July and hoping to feel extra motivated like before. I just wanted to vent. Have a great one all and stay on the journey, though I am a little down, I know it will be worth it in the end.

For what its worth, nearly everyone has setbacks and disapointments. The challenge is - like you said - getting back on track. Do that, and you will succeed.

In my opinion, many of us put too much pressure on ourselves to produce "successful results." Some of us (And you all know who you are *wink*) step on the scale EVERY day to see how they are doing. If they go up a pound they get discouraged. If they go down a pound, they have cheesecake.

I think you should be aware of the small victories. If you have improved your eating habits, acknowledge that. For example, if you no longer have the Big Mac or Whopper once a week or actually hit the gym on a regular basis for a few weeks, pat yourself on the back. If you've eliminated something clearly bad for you like smoking or drinking alcohol heavily, go buy yourself something.

But as for setbacks, first try to see if you are missing something in your wellness plan (I don't say diet). If you think you have the right idea but are still gaining weight, have a professional like a Registered Dietitian evaluate your diet and ask them to make suggestions. Work with a Certified Personal Trainer for a few weeks to learn a fitness routine that is right for you. Make sure your doctor has checked you problems involving you endocrine system and digestive system. If you have issues like hypothyroidism, diabetes, celiac disease, hypertension and others, you will have other considerations to allow for.

... And give yourself time to get back on track! If it was easy, we wouldn't need message boards like this!

Keep it up. Don't give up. Find something you've done positive and focus on that. The pounds will come off.
