A cup for my cravings?

I'm not a big drinker of tea, in fact until recently my drink of choice was a coke, I could drink those from morning noon to night, I still would if I could. But I cut out everything, all sodas and started drinking only water. I've flavoured it with low calorie dilute and it's a real chore.

I still get cravings though. I heard that old story " Hunger is often thirst in disguise" so I would drink until I was ready to bust but it's not working. I've noticed that a cup of tea, with semi skimmed milk and 1 sugar 1 stevia sweetener fills me up. I don't feel the need to snack so much after a cup and I wonder, what is it about this that is preventing my cravings. Is it going to backfire in the long run?

My bf thinks I'm crazy, tea never fills him up he says. But he eats like a baby sparrow.

Does anyone else get this with tea?

tea does fill me up also, I don't even sweeten it or use any creamer, just plain ol' tea. Going to have a cup now. I guess we are lucky because it's low calorie, nice snack!!!!

You have your tea black? I've never been able to manage this.

I'm proud of myself for having 1 sweetener 1 sugar though, I used to have three sugars. not quite so healthy :D

if you're bothered about caffeine try roiboos (redbush) tea. Has to be drunk black as it's got a smoky kind of flavour. Doesn't make you crave biscuits as it's not the right flavour for dunking. I tend to drink it in the evening as a replacement for coffee.

I drink very weak black tea. Regular tea is just nasty black because of all the tannin, I drink Earl Grey, white tea (made from the buds and has little colour, that's why it's called white), green teas etc. Fresh lemon or juice is good in carbonated water. I find any of these reduce snack cravings. Ideally it's best to stay away from the artificial water flavourings in the interests of keeping the chemicals down and being more natural, but everything you're doing is a huge improvement on gallons of soda, so well done you! If you drank coke with caffeine you may still be missing it - seems to take for ever for the system to adjust - and that might be why tea helps with your cravings.

Hey Bzmom I drink regular tea bags usually, tetley's or twinnings. I occasionally have green tea.

I usually drink flavored green tea a lot and I always find it seems to "fill me up." Might just be the warmth I'll take it!

Flavored so no need for sweetener! I win :)
  • It may be because your sugar levels have dropped and that is why you are craving things and why the tea with sugar helps. The warmth of the tea also tends to make you feel full.
