I live down here and let me tell you, it's NOT EASY eating healthy at restaurants. Some places have healthier items noted in the menu, but my best advice is to plan before you go out - check the restaurant's website for nutrition information, make a game plan about what/when/where you'll eat.

My favorite off-strip place is the Macaroni Grill. They have several very tasty, very healthy foods. As far as buffets go, fresh fruits and salads and meats should be good. Any of the warm dishes I'd be nervous... mashed potatoes, stuffing, rice... yikes!

It's such good food, but soooo easy to go overboard! Have a nice trip!

I'm leaving next Wed for Vegas myself.....I have been wondering the same thing. I have already been on the hotel website looking at the resturants in the hotel. I was so glad to see they do have some good food choices...egg white omelets etc...

I'm just going to make good choices while I'm there....at least I'm hoping that I can:wink:

Stay away from the buffet - or only get salad & meat (think steak or lobster w/o butter) and measure the dressing. I've always thought the food in Vegas was way overrated.

    Good luck.

Two weeks into my MFP weight loss plan we went to Vegas for four days.

Here is my humble opinion. EAT WHATEVER YOU WANT.

My female weight-loss buddy - who has the lap band - and I went to four buffets (Wynn is to die for - you have to go there at least). We had every possible sugary fatty thing - most desserts are tiny, so we would have six of them.....

We went to Phantom of the Opera and after that out to a huge dinner at the Venetian - cocktails, salads, Lobster and Filet, dessert.....

Hit the pool early in the day. Walking is a great way to see the sights in the daytime or at night, and the strip is VERY long. Each casino/hotel is pretty big. Vow to see as much as you have time for.

The food you eat in Vegas - stays in Vegas. Seriously, we both came back at the exact same weight as when we left. No damage done. I think the heat helps, too. As soon as we check in, we immediately go buy four bottles of water per day for each person. You'll need it.

Have FUN! It's your Birthday! :drinker:

Say yes to the BUFFET, BABY!

    Love ya, Mary :flowerforyou:

Oh, the cute baby in my profile sends you a flower too. She's the daughter of my Vegas travel-buddy. :flowerforyou:

It's tough to stay on a "strict diet" when you're on vacation! And don't let your food worries ruin your vacation. It's probably going to be ok to have a few extra treats over the weekend, especially if you're going to keep on your feet and do some sightseeing, lots of walking! If your worried then just don't go overboard with having a free for all at the buffet. Do fill up on tons of salad and veggies with a lighter dressing, and only put a couple small bites on your plate of those rich, fatty, high calorie foods that you really want to try, everything and anything in moderation. Most restaraunts and even buffets do have healthier options. But what I have found true for myself, is that two bad diet days won't destroy your weight loss. And you could be really "good" the few days before and extra careful to stay on track when you get back!
Enjoy your vacation, :drinker: have fun and do be aware of what your eating but don't let it become an obsession on your trip. Vegas is great, enjoy!
I'm going to florida over the weeknd and I know I'll eat some not so great foods, but I know I want to make the most of my time off and enjoy my vacation, and I'm not going to beat myself up if I go voer in calories a couple days. Plus I always get tons of walking in while out sightseeing!

I was born and raised in Las Vegas...I still live here!

I've eaten at every buffet and popular restaurant on the strip and my only advice to you is to use your common sense. If you want to go overboard, go ahead but if you want to maintain your diet do what makes sense.

Many of the restaurants don't post their nutrition facts so you'll have to be choosy with what you eat but consider the amount of walking and exercise you'll be doing. There are tons of things to do in the valley but the goal of vacationing in Vegas is to have a good time.

If you leave upset and dissapointed in yourself because you broke your diet...then that defeats the point of vacationing in Vegas. You'll want to leave happy and content and if you leave disgusted and upset at yourself....the vacation would be for naught.

Think about it. It's up to you!

I love the buffets in Vegas. MMM My thoughts are, how long have you been here and how well do you think YOU are able to control your eating behavior?? Buffets have a bad wrap, really, if you think about it. Just because they say, "Eat all you want" does not mean you have to "Eat all they have." You can look at them in this way: They offer a wide selection of menu choices with no waiting. Your choices are really this: 1. choose carefully and live to enjoy it 2. overeat and live to regret it 3. pass them up There is a fourth choice, eat all you want, screw the calories, and come back telling us how good you feel, but most people don't choose that option, I think that's what the previous post is saying. Why go if you come home full of regrets--have your friends treat you to somewhere else.
