Hi im just looking for some support on what i should do. I am 21 years old now and have been going to a community clinic since i started middle school. To the point im affraid to go to my doctor because im mostly affraid i wont be able to have children. Its not that im trying but i'd feel alot better knowing i have the option to have children in the future. since 8th grade i was on various birth controls (due to my insurance changing) finally i was put on Ocella (i was in 11th grade going to 12th) . I had become sexually active with one partner(happy to say im still with him after 4years)had my first pap smear and everthing was fine. I took my pill everyday at the same time(6am) and never missed one. My family history is kinda all over on my mothers and father, there is various cancers and diabeties and endometriosis from both sides. Any ways i have been off Ocella Since November 2011 had my period on December 2-9 and after that nothing i havent had spotting mood swings headaches nothing, and im not pregnant. I want to consult my doctor but i dont want her to tell me i wont be able to have children. Or that my body has stopped making hormones. I'm not i big girl im 5'4" and 120 Lbs im thinking maybe my body just needs to go through puberty again kinda like how men who want to be women take hormones. Please any advice or support is much appreciated

GO! Dont be scared. I was on various forms of birth control since 8th grade as well and Im 30 now, almost 31. After stopping the last one a few months ago the same thing happened to me. Just GO and find out what's up. It's always better to KNOW then NOT KNOW. Stress and eating and exercising, changing anything can make your periods get a little out of wack so dont worry. Just GO to the Dr. My lil sis had the same issue and is fine as well. I had to tell her the same thing, just GO! Silly girls, that's what your Dr is there for and what your insurance is for too, to make sure you're well and healthy :-D use it :-D0

Hey, I'm at the other end of the age spectrum hoping I'm still fertile, but seriously the best thing you can do is go and get checked out. From what you've said I don't really think there's any big need to stress, but if something were wrong it is so much better to get it early. There's a lot they can do for fertility issues nowadays. Trust me, if there was a problem with my fertility I'd rather have found out at 21 then watch a negative pee stick month after month till I'm in my 40's with a seriously reduced chance due to old eggs and diminished supply. I had a friend who had convinced herself she was infertile due to no pregnancy after years of poor contraceptive use. Once they 'started trying' her and her hubby had three kiddos in four years!
Go to the Dr, we'll support you!0 -
There are lots of things your doctor could tell you about why your periods are a little irregular at the moment: please don't think infertility is top of the list. My sister's periods have always been very light as well as irregular - maybe six a year, at odd times - whereas I have always have extremely regular heavy periods. She also took quite a long time to get into her rhythm. There's a lot of variety within families, so the problems your family members have aren't necessarily yours too.
Please go to the doctors. If it is a medical problem rather than a natural variation, it's better to have it checked out early. You probably know this in your heart. Do it today.0 -
I don't think you're gaining anything by delaying seeing a doctor. Just bite the bullet and find out what's going on. Chances are, you're worrying over nothing. And if there is something wrong, the sooner you go the sooner you can figure out what to do to fix it.
I had the same sort of issue a few years ago. Didn't get my TOM for about 6 months. My GP suggested it was stress (I had 3 jobs and full time uni) so I took a semester off and everything went back to normal.
Good luck0 -
hey - go to the doctor, dont be scared, they hear all kinds of stories, all day and yours is nothing unusual (spent years working in er) dont be afraid of what he might tell you, its is probably something simple maybe your not eating enough and exercising too much. but really, there is nothing that you cant share with your dr. i wish you good health0

Fear of the unknown is far greater than the reality of a thing. 90% of fears are based upon things with no basis in fact. There are a large number of reasons that you could be having this problem... Excessive exercise (amenorrhea is common in female athletes who train intensely)... Even if there is a problem, it is better to know about it and deal with it. Most of the time, it is something that is far less critical than you are probably imagining.0
