Oh boy-out with a couple GFs last night, off to a Pigfest AND friend's cookout today, babseball game tomorrow...how do I manage healthy choices & still enjoy myself?

How do you handle it? I have done the fill up on water & veggies prior to parties thing yet continue to still eat the bad stuff AT the party!

I need a rest day today as I exercised every day this week so calorie counting even more important.

Happy weekend-stay cool!

You need to learn how to stop associating food with having a good time. Eat if you're hungry, if you're not.. just enjoy the company of your friends and family.

And if there's alcohol involved I'd suggest drinking a lowcal drink such as a vodka/diet coke

make better choices at the cookouts and baseball games? dieting isnt about converting all at once to healthy food, it is a long drawn out process that will take time

    example of making better choices:
instead of a burger with fries, eat just the hamburger (no bun), and only eat half your fries. there ya go, you get to enjoy the taste of the burger AND the fries. And you prolly cut out about 300 cals just from not eating the bun and half the fries

most cookouts have a lot of chicken as well, chicken is always a solid choice. if the skin they cooked it in is greasy and fattening well you could always cut it off with a knife to save you some cals

think outside the box when it comes to social events, a lot of the time you do have some wiggle room, just make the smarter choices

Three bite rule. If you want something you don't think you should be eating, eat three bites of it or three chips or whatever. Then stop.

If I'm going to a party where food is lying around, I'll bring gum. When I've eaten my fill, I'll stick the gum in to prevent mindless snacking.

I also log everything. You can get away with a big meal now and again if you keep your other ones small. The weekly net calorie count is a lifesaver for me!!

Try not to hang out near the food. And if you have at least one friend that is also trying to be healthy it really helps

bring what you want to eat- example bring hard boiled eggs and then eat 2 of them first to fill you up. Or bring celery w/peanut butter (almond butter), or a fruit tray.

We learn by trial & error, honey ..... all great suggestions, by the way !

First, remember that we won't actually die if a meal is skipped LOL
    Second, make REASONABLE choices .....
Third, if there's something you really want, then do without something else .....

    Best of luck !

Good question! I know what I should do, now I just need to do it . On the other hand, I don't believe in depriving myself either so I don't get too hung up on my indulgences. I may not be exactly the weight I want to be but I do enjoy myself and don't deprive myself, yet there has to be a balance. I am so good during the week but then if social activities are happening during the weekend, all caution goes to the wind. Thankfully I have been able to pretty much maintain doing this, but not losing...
I will say when I started my weight loss journey, I probably tried to avoid some social situations to avoid temptation and back then I did not less myself over indulge. It was not until I hit my goal weight (which ( I am about 8 lbs away from currently) that I got a little more lenient.
